Don Fabio's England

[font=Arial][font=Arial][font=Tahoma]Thought I would start a thread about ffice:smarttags" />England under the stewardship of Don Fabio. With the dismal display last night and the imminent failure to qualify for the World Cup in South Africa, I thought it would be good to have a place to collectively moan and bitch about the woeful underperformance of the 11 men selected to represent this shitty fucking dump of a country.

Re: Don Fabio's England

For what its worth, here’s my take on things:

I’m all for being pragmatic, I think Beckham has to be in the squad because he can offer something different and has a cool head in difficult circumstances - I’m not one of the people who thinks he should be dropped altogether. However do we really think that 75 minutes of playing time against the Czechs in a friendly is worthwhile? Will it tell us anything that we don’t already know? Before the game, I knew that Beckham was sluggish at best on the right wing, but delivered a mean set piece. After the game, this is still the case. Why play Beckham when you have a chance to experiment and trial someone else in that position? Surely you’d be better off having a look at David Bentley or Joe Cole on the right?

Also, what the hell is going on up front? Emile Heskey? Jermaine Defoe? If they are the future of English football then quite frankly we’re fucked.

I would rather (and I’ve said this before about the likes of Matt Derbyshire and others) give a chance to a ‘young un’ for a game like this. Stick in Agbonlahor or Ashley Young as part of a front 3. Having seen Jermaine and Wayne labour about last night, we can deduce that JD is ok and WR ‘should do better’.

Infact I’m going to single him out next. What does Wayne Rooney actually do, besides run about, track back, spit and occasionally give back chat to the officials? 4 years on from his elevation to national hero and all round saviour of England, what is his role? Where does he play? This isn’t a points scoring exercise by the way. I’m not pulling Rooney apart on the basis that he’s a rich man’s Dirk Kuyt or anything – but honestly what does he do? If he’s a striker then he should be dropped on a goals/game ratio. Is he a midfielder who occasionally pushes up front? I really don’t know.

At the moment, he offers to England what Kuyt offers to Liverpool. Lots of perspiration but not a lot of inspiration.

I’m actually quite bored with this now. Managers change, coaches change, chief executives come and go, Players are shifted from one side of the pitch to the other – but we still end up with the same conclusions….

(a) England aren’t good enough
(b) Gerrard is a miserable, sour faced get.

Re: Don Fabio's England

England's problem is the personel on the pitch.

They keep changing the management but nothing changes. Its still the same formation, players etc etc and until that changes i don't think we are going to see much improvement.

How players like Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney can continue to start is beyond me. Yes they are doing it domestically but they are such poor performers for England that they should be dropped but aren't due to who they are.

Last night was a game i thought would be tough but after reading our czech punters views on their sides i started to believe England would stick a fair few by them for a comfortable win.
