Re: Keegan Walks?
Well, NUFC say officially that they havent sacked him. Keegan has said through the LMA (League Manager's Association) that he hasnt walked out.
To be honest, I think the parties will sit down today and talk over compensation.
Keegan wont walk, because he will get zero compo. The club wont sack him because he was offered a ridiculous contract last year that they would have to pay in full - so we are at an impasse.
I think they will try to thrash out a face saving deal for both parties today and come to an agreement - in terms of compensation.
The board were going behind his back over the weekend trying to sell Barton and Michael Owen - Keegan isnt in charge of transfers and is no more than a puppet for the current owner/management team. Keegan isnt the sort of man to stay quiet under such circumstances.

Not only would he get no compensation, a clause in his contract states he'd have to pay Newcastle £1m compensation according to this article

Re: Keegan Walks?
Newcastle are there own worst enemy, they have the makings of a great club that could go far but seem intent on living in the past, football has moved on in the last 20 yrs and the days of homely keep it in house clubs have gone in the top flight, Football is now a business and they nearly turned the corner when they appointed Allardyce and his fancy fandangled training techniques, it wasent much but it was a pointer to the future but after just 6 months they shelved it and went back to square one with Keegan, gone are the days when players gave 110% for the club they love , nowadays its about money, agents and looking after number 1, Keegan may give his heart and soul to the club but it must be disheartning when the players couldent give a toss and the chairman has brought in people like Wise to select players for him, I heard on the radio last night that they have a foreign scout who's only 19 yrs old and a ex steward, probbaly a m8 of Ashley who himself needs to get a grip and stop running the club like a Sunday football side.
With proper management and the cash Ashley has pumped in they should be a consistant top 10 side on the move upwards, last nights episode when nobody from the club had the balls to tell it how it was to the fans and explain what was going on just about sums up the state of them at the moment.
Ashley needs to get a grip or move on and they need to get in a manager who will be given time to turn things around and realise they won't be challenging for anything over night, Curbishley would be ideal to steady the ship and get them sorted out but I doubt he would go there with the current setup.

Re: Keegan Walks?
Damn shame, 99% of the fans gutted so it cant be good , I dont see anyway how Ashley can show his face there again safely.
Who could they bring in? Shearer?
At least Barton should be out on his ear again with any luck

Re: Keegan Walks?
No chance , I'm more inclined to think it's going to be a Spaniard maybe big name maybe up and comer.
Their main scout is Spanish is he not , I could be tempted by Marcelino Toral or even Frank Rijkaard although after Gullit he could be a non starter

Re: Keegan Walks?
Funny you should mention Marcelino , a lot of the conspiracy theorists on the Chronicle forum are saying this has been planned for months..
Quote:
if marcelino comes in we will know this has been planned for ages , there has been strong rumors since the start of last week that he had agreed to come into newcaslte as long ago as last season .

Re: Keegan Walks?
Terrible news, feel gutted for the Newcastle fans they definatly have got their fair share of turmoil the past few years, no stability whatsoever. Such passionate fans, was funny on sky sports news tonight when they were chanting, "shoes off if you love keegan" or something along those lines to which all the fans had their shoes off waving at the boardroom.

Does anyone think there is a North/South divide in this country?

Re: Keegan Walks?
With me being a Sunderland fan, the events of the last few days have obviously been highly amusing, and I don't feel sorry for the fans cos most of them are horrible twats, but feel sorry for Keegan - he might be a quitter and a non-winner but seems a decent bloke and has been treated worse than shite.
Can't see Shearer taking the job AT ALL - there's no way surely he'd take the job knowing Wise had more say in buying/selling players.....and NUFC are clearly intent on sticking with Wise.
It's got to be someone foreign, surely, and someone connected with Wise from his Chelsea days I reckon.

Re: Keegan Walks?
I cant see anything wrong with the situation at Newcastle in terms of a decent manager taking the job. Infact there isnt anything wrong with the clubs transfer policy full stop.
The only problem is that KK wasnt aware of it before he signed for them. There's nothing wrong with a director of football or a sporting director picking players for the coach, as long as the manager is happy with this and has a good relation ship with the hierachy.
This wasnt the case at Newcastle, obviously.
