Jon Stead Signs for Sunderland
SUNDERLAND, June 13 (SW) – Sunderland have snapped up Blackburn striker John Stead for a reported fee of £1.8 million.
Stead, an ex-England U21 international, signed a 4-year deal with the Black Cats after spending just 16 months at Ewood Park. His strike rate of 24 goals in 76 games equals out to almost a goal every three games – not a totally unimpressive record.
Also just saw that Smicer has left Liverpool -
The Czech midfielder Vladimir Smicer will be spending the coming season at the French team Girondins de Bordeaux. The player was out of contract at Champions League winners Liverpool FC.
The 32 year old played in the Ligue 1 before, having spent three seasons (1996-99) at RC Lens, before joining Liverpool for what turned out to be six years. The player started his career at Slavia Prague in 1992, and has since then earned himself 73 appearances in the Czech national team.
Smicer has signed a deal for two seasons.
