Dutch Duo Refuse Dutch Call Up

Quote:
Ruud van Nistelrooy and Mark van Bommel have rejected call-ups to the Holland squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers with Bulgaria and Albania on 7-11 October.
Van Bommel was named in the original squad, despite coach Marco van Basten saying after the World Cup that the midfielder had no international future.

Real Madrid striker Van Nistelrooy was called up as a replacement for the injured Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) says the duo turned down Van Basten.
Have to say i think this is disgusting.

I don't care what there problems with the manager is. When it comes to Internationals you put your problems aside and play for your country and represent them to the best of their ability yet these two clowns feel they are too big for it now after having a little bickering match with their manager.

Pathetic and sad.

I cant say I agree Kiko.

Any player has a right not to play. They had a barny with the manager and he said they were surplous to requirements despite them being 2 of the best players they have. Now he needs their help and they arent playing ball. Fair play to them.

What's the difference between these two doing this and a player announcing his "international retirement" and then doing a u-turn when the bosses change?

Can't agree with you either Kiko. It should be a players choice whether or not he plays for his country, whether it be Van Bommel, the Horse or Makelele. I am sure many of us here would give our right arm to play for our country but you don't know what goes on behind closed doors etc and what their relationships with their managers are like.

Remember RVN getting shat on by Van Basten when they were struggling for a goal against Portugal. Van Basten brought on every other forward he had before the Horse. Hell, I think he would have played the sub goalie up front before RVN. Thats a pretty big snub and for me, well not me but you know what I mean, I would be saying "Feck you mate, if I wasn't good enough for you then, nowt has changed, go and sort our your problems another way".

Likewise, Davie Weir and Dailly carried the can for Scotland drawing 2-2 in the Faroes under Berti Vogts. Vogts slated the pair of them publically, Dailly continued to play but Weir obviously felt that he couldn't continue playing for a manager who drew his tactics and team selections out of a tombola bin and who was the worst man motivator and tactician ever. The little German prick.

Nah, if a manager slates you or tells you your career is over or picks folk from the crowd before putting you on as a sub then its their judgement which is up their arse and it doesn't improve their public profile if they change their minds on you a couple of months later.
