Barton's Moonie and Pearce's comments

Joey Barton is still waiting to hear whether he will face a FA charge for dropping his shorts in the direction of Everton supporters.

Merseyside Police confirmed they have terminated their inquiries into the Manchester City midfielder's actions at Goodison Park on Saturday, following consultation with the FA.

But the FA will not be rushed into making a decision on whether to punish Barton and are expected to finally issue a statement on the matter on Thursday morning.

In a statement Merseyside police said: "Merseyside police has been in consultation with the FA in relation to the incident. The FA will now continue with their own investigation."

And while that news will come as a relief to City boss Stuart Pearce, he will be irritated that the FA have ensured the issue remains in the headlines by extending their deliberations.

Earlier, Pearce had called on the authorities to put the issue in perspective, adding: "Maybe some of the things that were said to that player are a more serious matter but we are not going to rake that up."

Pearce added on City's official website, www.mcfc.co.uk: "If things are serious and need to be addressed, fine. When I get home I see exactly on television what happened.

"I see one of my players give his shirt to a disabled fan. As he's walking off the pitch, he's being sledged about things I'd prefer not to go into - but we know what we're talking about.

"He kept a smile on his face throughout the whole incident, and he's done something that, at worst, is a little bit childish.

"At best, it's a bit of comedy that everyone should laugh off, but I still have to deal with it several days later."

Re: Barton's Moonie and Pearce's comments

What do people think about this?

Isn't Barton the bloke who sticks cigars in people's eye and all round toss-pot?

The reason I pasted the article is that I hope that Pearce doesn't get the sack as I enjoy reading his comments in a world gone mad. "Police investigating a moonie" indeed. Pearce voiced the same sentiments about the coppers investigating the Thatcher tackle.

What do you think. Should someone (sports-star or otherwise) be arrested for a "Moonie"????

If it was any normal footballer without a background with him you would say its just a bit of banter with the fans (like Barton clamed it was).

But because its Barton you have to think he was doing it to wind the fans up and get a reaction.

He keeps saying he is a new changed mature player but im yet to see it

It's embarrasing and Everton fans should be ashamed of themselves. All through the match he took stick from them because of his brother being inside for murder.
we score last minute and he gives his shirt to a disabled kid and then bares his buttocks to those who were slagging him off.
I pity the sad muppets who reported this incident

Typical of footy fans nowadays though.

As Keema says, he gets dogs abuse for 90 mins on what is actually a pretty serious matter and the one time he responds, its all "Ohh officer officer the bad man who I have been calling every name under the sun for 90 mins just bared his arse at me, I am SOOOOOO offended, lock him up and through away the key".

Same thing happened with Neil Lennon at Dundee a couple of seasons ago, got called everything, fenian this and that, slated for the whole game. And then Lennon decided to give them the fingers and they were all calling for him to be charged.

Yes, I am sure that sports stars should probably rise above all this but I always have a bit of admiration for the player who decides to give them some of their own medicine. Best thing Cantona ever did was launch into the Palace fan who had been abusing him, acting the big man etc. Bet that bloke fucking shit himself as 13st of mental Frenchman came hurtling over the barrier feet first.

Had a You Tube clip of some Mexican game (I think) where this fan, in a very small crowd, was slating some player who was being subbed off. The player marched behind the dugout, caught him and battered the fuck out of him. Maybe thats going a bit over the score but bet the fan won't be mouthing off like that again.

As Keema says Everton fans must now feel ashamed that it has gone so far.

Barton isnt a saint as his past has shown but this is taking the piss, it does not take a rocket scientist to see that what happened was all in good spirits and just a laff.
Even the Everton fan's who reported the incident must have done so wanting to get Bartons wrist smacked for a laff and take up as much of his own time as possible just for the inconvenience facor.

It was all tongue in cheek so to speak and should have been treated as such, but no, as usual nowadays the fcuking do gooders that seem to rule the majority from a minority have their way as usual.

I don't blame any toffee fans for what has happened as no doubt if the boot was on the other foot a similar thing would have happened but its embarassing the situation has been allowed to escalate so far.

Yep , the Everton fans were acting like cnuts ( no surprise )

Its a shame that the FA are getting involved , when you get muppets that dive week in and week out ( eg that guy from Spurs last week )

It makes me want to smash things up when i hear of supporters reporting things to the police
Its not his fault that his Step Brother has been banged up for f**ks sake , who are these toos pots that report players for trivial matters ?

Re: Barton's Moonie and Pearce's comments

Though Cantona must've been 15st surely?:loon

That was one of those moments I remember staring at the TV and just thinking "What the fcuk is going on?". Obviously Hillsborugh was one of those times as well but I seem to remember a Man City v Tottenham (or may be Everton getting back on topic) FA cup tie from about 15 years ago (Terry Phelan scored a wonder goal I think, who did he play for?) and the away fans just decided to run the length of the pitch and take on the home fans. Cue the riot police. Anybody else remember that televised fixture?

"Maybe they're just jealous that he's got a real nice tight one, with no cellulite or anything. I thought his bum cheeks looked very pert. If anybody's offended by that they ought to go and see the doctor."
Plymouth boss Ian Holloway gives his own inimitable view on Barton's bottom.
