For the love of God go Staunton

What’s the Cypriot for “can we play you every day”.

I (as advised in the International thread) bet Cyprus on the outrights at nearly 8/1 and a further bet on the Asian Handicap to collect my biggest payout of 2006. It’s a payout that gives me 0 joy after the most abject and clueless display by an Irish team that I can remember in 20 years of following them.

These are not bad players. They’re not great players either but we should be competitive and organised. With roughly the same cast of average players that the dismal Vogts has Walter Smith has jump started Scottish football. Staunton has managed to drag similar players back further than Brian Kerr who I rated the worst Irish manager of the 5 I remember. The display tonight should have Staunton falling on his sword. If he loves Irish football and cares anything for the players he has to go. Let him see out Wednesday (another iceberg looming there) and let him slip away. John Dennehy promised us a world class manager. We got the defensive coach of relegated Walsall.

For the love of god please go Staunton .

Seems fair enough point CJ.

Appointing a manager on reputation of his playing days over his managerial experience is always destined to fail 9 times out of 10.

I like Ireland a lot and on there day they are a match for anyone but under the wrong guidance they aren't going to be upto much it has to be said

Did McGeady start? If so how did he get on?

Also feel your pain as like you said Scotland were in a similar position and while we know we aint world beaters, far from it infact, we do like to see that there is at least some sort of progress happening now.

Is there any managers available though that could do a good job that would want it?
