Eeeh by gum, I must say Newcastle are in the shit. Its a combination of bad management and personnel who are not good enough. The ones that are good enough, dont seem motivated or fit enough. The current manager doesnt inspire confidence and for me, isnt the man to guide them out of trouble. They need a real motivator, a man who can inspire. When the chips are down the players need belief and confidence, I just dont think Roeder can provide them with that. Look at him, he's a freak.
Newcastle fans were duped by the Fat Controller in the summer into buying season tickets. Promises of world class players and David Beckham making their way to St James failed to materialise. The lack of enthusiasm can be seen with their disappointing Cup attendances. If they hadnt sold so many season tickets in the summer, they would be struggling to fill the place. Understandibly, there is a feeling of discontent on Tyneside and more and more, people believe the answer is to sack the board.
Sir John Hall moaned the other week in the paper about how much money had been wasted on sub-standard players since Fat Freddy had been in charge. Dyer, Boumsong, Martins, Bramble & Luque spring to mind and their total transfer fees paid by newcastle (not including wages) is in the region of £35 million. Scarey stuff given that they (the Toon) are no closer now to winning the Premiership or any competition.
Fat Freddy has to carry the can as far as I am concerned. He has appointed a string of bad managers and has gone with what the public want, rather than what is actually best for the club. It would have taken a brave man to appoint Curbishley over Roeder when the team had enjoyed a decent run post Souness. Freddy didnt have the bollocks and went with public opinion and appointed Glenn.
Im sure he is a very nice guy, but he is not a Premiership manager. Newcastle will win nothing with him in charge.
The root of Newcastle's problems come from the people themselves. I think its because Newcastle is a little island in Southern Scotland that they are in this predicament. They have no competition or rivals for miles around and so have an inflated view of themselves and their club. Therefore they expect to mount a genuine challenge for trophies each year. The unrealistic expectiations then lead the board to make signings they cant afford and chase 'big name' players in order to satisfy the fans.
Off the pitch they are in the shit as well. Renue from ticket sales has dropped for the 3rd consecutive year. A healthy ratio of wages compared to turnover for a football club is thought to be around 50%. Newcastle's ratio increased to 68% in the 05/06 Financial Year. Something needs to change in the next 8 weeks or the club could find themselves in the shit. With massive overheads such as Michael '120k a week' Owen, Newcastle could well find themselves in a worse situation than Leeds. No reason why they are immune from Bankruptsy.
Worth gaving a look at this site to see just how bad Newcastle's situation is, financially.
