Dundalk Supporter firebombs the F.A.I headquarters

Printable version FAI headquarters in arson scare

The FAI headquarters were at the centre of an arson scare

The Football Association of Ireland's headquarters in Dublin were evacuated on Wednesday because of an arson scare.

It is believed a man entered the building at Merrion Square carrying a can of petrol before setting it alight but there were no reports of injuries.

A banner purporting to represent supporters of Dundalk Football Club was tied to the railings outside.

The FAI promoted Galway United ahead of Dundalk under new criteria for clubs playing in the Premier Division.

The association used fresh guidelines to decide which 12 teams should play in the top flight in 2007.

They included infrastructure, governance, strategic planning, finance, youth development and marketing.

Results over the last five years were also taken into consideration.

An eyewitness said: "I heard the man doused office chairs and a Christmas tree with petrol before walking out again.

"He then poured more fuel on his head before putting his hands up.

"He was shouting something like `I have no problem with Galway, but Dundalk fans deserve justice.' "Gardai arrested him - he was wearing a Dundalk FC shirt - and took him away in a patrol vehicle." After the incident, staff opened the windows of the building to allow petrol fumes to escape.

Fucking idiot and the sooner football eradicates morons like this the better.

Its not the F.A.I's fault his side doesn't meet the criteria for promotion.

Anyhow, it's unique example that FA decides instead of table, so what's the purphose of the competition, if someone deserves to be promoted and than simply get a ban because, for example ...not having a good strategic planning...they have planned to get promoted, didn't they?
The only serious reason against some team could be their potential financial condition, in order to avoid this year's Dublin's case.
