Getting behind your team

I'm pretty p*ssed off with the attitude of a lot of our supporters. We are a very average team in the Championship, massively in debt awaiting our next manager yet again.
We really ain't very good, we know that, but the thing that gets me wound up is the booing of the very average players we have signed up.
Comonsense tells me that to get the best out of the players you have got is to get behind them and encourage them.
Your team is as good as your position in the league, and fans harping on that we are a premiership team is a bollax.
We have a very broad range of supporters here on the DP, and I would be interested to know if this is just a Coventry thing, or more commonplace than I realised.

No it happens Conan no matter what level of football you are watching. I heard a rumour that even them cheeky scousers have booed their team off the pitch at times and are they not probably the best supporters in the world.

Re: Getting behind your team

To be honest Burt, I pretty much knew that, but it's getting to the stage that if one of our players makes the slightest mistake the crowd are on his back.

They then wonder after battering his confidence why his performance goes down.

It's so much a catch 22 situation, the fans want to see it on the pitch to get behind them, but the players out there are so low on confidence and frightened of making a mistake they under perform.

I still believe as fans we are up there with the worst of them.

Re: Getting behind your team

trouble is Conan Coventry were in the top flight for many years and I suppose when you got relegated many of your fans thought that you would probably be back within a couple of years as many relegated teams have. But it isn't that easy and although I don't follow Coventry I don't think they have had alot of stability in recent years have they? Go and watch Derby, that will give you the confidence that things will get better. If they can top the championship then there is hope for everyone.

Re: Getting behind your team

Its just one of those things Conan. Should teams inspire the fans or should the fans inspire the team?

Coventry sold McSheffrey and got shut of their manager. I dont really know what fans expect of their teams sometimes. I blame sky for hyping football and raising their expectations. Everyone believes their club is a massive club and everyone believes they have the right to be in the Premiership these days. Its a shame.

They have a cracking stadium and should be realistic and aim for the Prem within 3 to 5 years. Keep your feet on the ground and dont expect too much too soon. Its a shame when people boo the team, I dont think there's ever an excuse to boo the team or individual players. There are ways to make a point.

Protesting against the board is fair game by the way.
