Cristiano Ronaldo - wages & relative value

I was sat on the gary glitter yesterday reading Rodney Marsh's article on Cristiano Ronaldo in the Star. For ill educated that shy away from such high brow publications as the Star, Marshy was arguing that Ronaldo is worth £200k a week on current form......

I had a chat with my dad last night and his reply was of the 'my arse he is...' type. He argued that no player could be worth that much.

Its an interesting debate isnt it, as to who is worth what..... On the face of it, you would probably say that No, Ronaldo is not worth £200k a week. But if Lucas Neill is given a £75k a week deal and Michael Ballack £120k a week - what price the world's best player. And for the record, yes it is my opinion that Ronaldo is currently the best and most effective player in the world.

Everything is relative isnt it. Ronaldo's current deal probably sees him being paid on a par with the aforementioned Aussie Right-Back. In an age when turn over and merchandising increases year on year, maybe Ronaldo is worth £200k a week. If you are to bench mark him against other players to guage his value, he surely has to be up there as one of, if not the top earners in the modern game. And you can be sure, if Man U dont offer him that sort of deal this summer, Madrid certainly will......

Do you think he`s gonna end up in Spain next season ?

Plenty of paper talk doing the rounds mind.

I think if United dont pay market value for him, then yes he will move.

In the paper the other week, it was rumoured Marcus Bent was asking £110k a week in order to move to west ham.

If that is the case and that is Bent's "value" then what is Ronaldo worth?

Re: Cristiano Ronaldo - wages & relative value

i have come up with a fantastic idea years in the making, well just thought of it...

Players are not paid wages but earn a % of turnover from the club. seeing as they are assets and all.
