Favourite Midfielder

Just been watching the Arsenal - Porto game where Porto were leading 1-0 at half time.

Substitution at half time see's Freddie Ljunberg come on and score 2 goals in 15 minutes.

Brought thoughts into my head of thinking that he is probably my favourite midfielder attacking wise. He supports his forwards so well and has the finishing ability to match his runs which are just as good as any striker.

Seems a bit of a model pro too where you don't hear too much about him in the press.

Others that spring to mind is Ballack for the same reasons really as Ljunberg only difference is he can be a bit of a cnut at times.

What about yours? Preferrably have you's mention midfielders from teams who you don't support as there would be less bias thoughts.

And he dyes his hair. No midfield hero of mine would die their fuckin hair I can tell you.

Much as I hate the bloke, Roy Keane is probably my favourite, although watching Viera making it all look so effortless at his best a season or two ago almost made me change my mind.

Keano it is for me though.

Re: Favourite Midfielder

Frank Lampard has been superb over the last two seasons, he gets my vote for best midfielder from another English club. Scholes may be not the player he was but he still deserves a mention.

By the way, if anyone even mentions Beckham's name in this thread they should be barred from ever being able to comment about football again.

Re: Favourite Midfielder

If your not just talking about English teams then has to be Zidane for me. Maybe gone of the boil a little last season but prior to that he was superb. Seemed to glide through games and looked just great on the ball. He made skills which were so difficult look a piece of piss. Has an outstanding touch for someone whos a pretty big lad.

Re: Favourite Midfielder

I agree with Zidane...top player & really had it on the big occasion.....not in his class by far & also a very biased choice, but I always liked watching Sid Cowans

Re: Favourite Midfielder

Sid Cowans eh Swoop

Good player

I went to watch the Villa some time ago, was in the Holt End before it was all seater, fcukin loud, it was against Southampton and Villa won 2-1 or 2-0, the crowd were singing "we'll be top by 5 oclock".... and you were.

Also made a trip down to Reading in the back of a trani van for a midweek cup tie, my arse was numb from having to sit on a wooden plank, every fcuker kept farting : it was an open end terrace them days and it was pissing down, we got there 10 mins late and missed the only two goals in a 1-1 draw

Re: Favourite Midfielder

Saw Sids last game i think Kop, he was actually playing against us for Sheff Utd in the FA Cup on a sunday on BBC1. Really snowy day, game was nearly off tbh.
Ground only had 3 sides & the commentary box on the other, we were in the really steep stand @ the away end, you darent have a drink before hand cos it felt like you were skiing like Franz Klammer every time you stood up otherwise.......

Anyway somebody clobbered Sid & he was stretchered off & about 5000 Villa were chanting 'Sid,sid,sid,sid....' (imaginative in them days we were...) & he was waving at us with a busted up leg...emotional it was

Savo took a dive & yorkie chipped the pen, but they had their revenge last season tbf

It was the same season Blues held Liverpool @ St Andrews in the 3rd round & Hansen said 'they'll get murdered @ Anfield'......aye, it went to penalties
& Blues's were well high, might have been the same night as Lockerbire...sorry bad joke ....anyway we were giving Hansen some right grief & it could only have been because of that......

Alan Hansen...has the rare distinction of being hated by the Holte End more than the Blues
