owen's position in the England squad was made more secure because Johnson decided to re sign for Palace I think. Owen will consider himself to be the first choice striker still because AJ has moved down a league and fatboy has hardly been on fire since joining Man U. I think his place is guaranteed and I would say that someone who has been prone to injuries and overworking himself, would benefit from playing less games. Then the games he does play (for england) he will be fresher. Crazy as it may seem, it may work out better for Owen.

If he goes to the Toon he will be flogged to death because of their lack of cover. Looks today that Shearer will miss the opening game of the season, we will see how Ameobi/Chopra look at the weekend....

oh and to add to Manchester United's 4 strikers... Ole Gunnarbeoutforaseasonwithabadknee Solskjaer is due back from injury in the next week or so. I thought he had died or something.... Surely they cant sign ANOTHER striker on massive wages...?...?

Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has confirmed that Real Madrid have accepted a £14 million bid for Michael Owen.

Freddy Shepherd told Sky Sports News that Owen will fly in for a medical after terms were agreed with thte players agent last night.

Newcastle are planning to unveil the striker at St James Park tomorrow to coincide withthe launch of their new change kit.
