Jenas Transfer Request?

Quote:
Newcastle have failed to dampen speculation that England's Jermaine Jenas has submitted a transfer request.
The Magpies are refusing to comment on reports claiming the 22-year-old England midfielder wants to quit St James' Park.

Jenas missed the Intertoto Cup exit against Deportivo La Coruna, but boss Graeme Souness hotly denied it was the result of a bust-up between the pair.

Spurs and Arsenal are expected to lead the race for the £10m-rated star.

Souness, angry at suggestions Jenas missed the Depor game because he is going to be sold, said: "This is absolute nonsense. The only reason JJ was not involved was because he was injured."

I think he's very overrated, but will Souness be able to replace him with as good a midfielder?

But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made no secret of his admiration for Jenas, and is still seeking a replacement for captain Patrick Vieira after his departure to Junventus.

Tottenham have signed Edgar Davids, but might still make a move if Jenas has asked for a transfer.

Manchester United have also been linked, as they look for a long-term replacement for Roy Keane, and Middlesbrough are reported to be keen.

Newcastle initially placed a restrictive £20m price tag on Jenas, who has won 12 England caps, but may accept half that figure.
This is the last thing Newcastle need just now. They have a very thin squad at the minute and need to bring players in, not let them go.

Too be honest - i think Jenas has potential and will probably fulfill it in the coming years but i don't think he is as good as he is said to be just now, too inconsistent for my liking just now.

Re: Jenas Transfer Request?

The one place they aren't actually thin at the moment is central midfield though Kiko.

Parker and Emre came in and you would imagine being Souness signings, and new ones at that, they will both start. Faye is also a Souness signing and you also have Dyer and Bowyer (who looked to be on his way but keeps on popping up with performances and goals). 5 players fighting for 2 places. Jenas wouldn't be a loss IMO, he wasn't even guaranteed a starting place towards the end of last season.

What Newcastle do need is definately forwards and also possibly another 1 or 2 defenders. £10m+ for Jenas would give them a decent transfer wedge for 1 or even 2 attacking players.

I would let him go for £10m+ if anyone is daft enough to pay that.

Re: Jenas Transfer Request?

Aye i know they are overloaded in central midfield. But Bowyer they seem they want rid of, even though like you say he keeps popping up.

I have said through the summer i reckon Souness is looking to be playing Dyer upfront and the way things are going, it looks like they will have to unless they can get the strikers in they so desperately need.

So that would then leave Jenas, Parker, Emre and Faye - one injury and they are looking very very weak in the middle.

If they could get £10million + though i would take it and then get some more players in quickly.

What do you think of Shearer? Do they think he is taking on a season too many and should've just gone out last season?

Re: Jenas Transfer Request?

kiko - i think shearer has bitten off more than he can chew. It's a shame that he should stay on for one season too long IMO. Having said that, they would be in the sh1t if they didnt have him - Chopra and Ameobi as a strike force would hardly strike fear into Championship defences, let alone Premiership ones.....

I think Jermaine Anus will go. I think they overpaid for him in the first place and to recoup that money with a bit on top is great business for them. He has never looked anything other than average as a Magpie. Amdy Faye is nothing special, but you would be hard pressed to rate Jenas above Faye really.

I think Dyer is playing off the main striker because of the lack of front men. Ideally he would be played in the centre if they had another right winger and a striker or two. That 10 mil would go a long way to funding a striker I reckon, they may leave themselves short if they sell Jenas. But not to sell and to leave themselves critically short up front is suicide surely...?
