Oh dear what can the matter be.....?
When the Aussies mauled England, pah we didnt care because we had made 101 changed throughout the game. This time when the vikings turn us over, we can have no such excuses. We were average in the first half and terrible in the second.
Defoe did nothing bar spurn a few chances, if he is the best we have available then we are in trouble. I fear Defoe is going to be a player who promises much yet delivers very little on the international stage. I only hope Rooney can muster a goal against Wales because I dont see Defoe bagging one anytime soon.
Hmmm, how many times will David James get to funk up before he is dropped? He has put in erratic performances for years now and at international level, one mistake is a mistake too many.
Anyway, I am not really arsed as far as the result is concerned. The team is better than the performance tonight. Sven still doesnt have a bad record in competetive games and I think to call for Sven's head (as many will do) is OTT. We lost to a bad team, end of. At least it wasnt Germany or Scotland. We will all still be breathing tomorrow and we will batter the Taffs in October....

Re: Oh dear what can the matter be.....?
The funny thing is James is the best goalkeeper City have had since i have been following them.
He made the 2 of the top 3 saves in the prem last year and i honestly wouldnt swap him for any other keeper in the premiership. The guy is absoulute class for us and I cant remember him making one mistake for us in 3 years. Can the other city fans remember one? I cant.
Bloody awful for England though

Good shot stopper - bad keeper.
A bloke on talksport has just said he's prone to making an error a game for city Must be watching a different game to you then Chris
Daft as it sounds, I think his porblem is that he's TOO confident. He tries to do things that he's really no good at - Like catching crosses for example

Re: Oh dear what can the matter be.....?
You can have Rab Douglas if you want
Turns a good performance and whats looking like a very surprising away win into feeling like we have just been humped by someone like Denmark.
2-0 and totally cruising, 1 speculative strike from 25 yards, a slight deflection but Rab is still moving in the opposite direction to where the ball is going. 4 mins later, a big Rab special. Boy pings it from 20 yards, Rab can neither hold it or think about turning it round the post so he just blocks it directly back into the middle of the box and its 2-2
Not often that Scotland getting a 2-2 away from home feels like a loss

Re: Oh dear what can the matter be.....?
Poor England performance. Pretty embarrassing too when you hear all the talk of them being potential World Cup Winners.
I still rate England as the most over rated International side since i can remember. They have some quality players but they aren't consistent enough.
Rooney i will say was the only player that can take any heart from it. A tireless effort from the lad, shame the rest of the side didn't have the same spirit.
Calls for Erikkson's head probably are premature, but for £4.5 million a year or however much it is, what does he actually do that merits this amount a year? To me, he picks the same side and tactics that most others would pick.
I agree with Chris though - Whenever i watch Man City i can't help but be impressed with James. But as soon as i see him in an England jersey it goes all pear shaped for him. Maybe its the pressure or something, i don't know but i think he has blown his chance now.

Re: Oh dear what can the matter be.....?
This was the poorest result for 25 years....
Last time England lost in such a big way was against Wales ( 4 - 1 ) .
Next competitive match , Yep ....Wales.
The one thing that puzzled me was why did he bring Owen on ? Hes suspended for the next match against Wales so why the f**k play him.
4000 England supporters traveled for the match , poor buggers.

Why on earth did he come out afterwards and say he wasn't prepared for the game? Not only did he make himself look stupid during the game, but what he said afterwards was even worse.
"Oh yeah, I'm totally unprofessional, wasn't ready for the game"
Hardly likely to get him picked ever again. That's his problem, trying to be too clever. Except he isn't clever at all, and his attempts to look clever backfire. Idiot

I looked at this, and tried really hard to find something to disagree with
Scotland 1978. England may blow it when it comes down to it and may even be over-rated, but I don't think their manager has ever said they're going to win the World Cup, before going and getting knocked out in the group stages have they?

Re: Oh dear what can the matter be.....?
A bit of a mistake perhaps from Ally MacLeod, but I'll wager the feelgood factor going around the whole country in the week beforehand was worth it .GIF) Bit like after we beat Holland 1-0 - the week before the second leg was awesome...everyone talking about our chances, and nothing else, slowly convinving ourselves we might just be good enough to do it, before getting cuffed 6-0
Wouldn't change it for the world though.
Whereas English fans are just a depressing bunch, waiting in anticipation of their next great failure.

Re: Oh dear what can the matter be.....?
At least England usually don't get knocked out first round every single time Scotland manage to, that's when they actually qualify at all.
Scotland would probably settle for that at the moment, qualifying for a major championship would be a massive achievement in itself Since I've been watching football (about 1986), England have only failed to qualify for a World Cup or European Championship once (1994). .GIF)

Re: Oh dear what can the matter be.....?
Let's face facts..England have probably the worst friendly record in the world..Also...Playing a match when their competitive season is a week old really doesnt mean that they're at the top of their game..Also..Erikkson has already said that the first half team is pretty much the first team anyhow, so incentive for the second half team aint great..Also...James was in the net...
Jeeeeeezzz...What's the problem.....?

Re: Oh dear what can the matter be.....?
Agreed, it's one friendly match played at a bad time. England have lost nothing, and they'll probably beat Wales anyway.
People are going over the top. It's never good to lose 4-1. It's best to do it when it doesn't matter though.
Better than losing 6-0 to Holland when a place at Euro 2004 is at stake
