Hearts

Was reading an interesting article in my local paper and the columnish brought up a pretty decent point.

He mentioned how Hearts have to be weary of going down the same path as Dundee did.

Remember Dundee? Going out for the big signings with the hope of separating and toppling the Old Firm. They got off to a flyer of a start in the league similar to Hearts and brought in the likes of Ravenelli, Nemsadze, Cabbalarro among others.

Now these names are bigger than the Hearts players i know so most likely on a lot more wages.

Just made me think a little about this. I hope for the sake of Scottish Football it doesnt happen like this though.

Re: Hearts

The story about Jankauskas being on £10,000 a week is a similarly concerning one, although it turns out that might well be coming solely from Romanov's pocket, which would be a bit more understandable.

Quite a few of the boys are loan signings too.

But nevertheless, I agree there is a danger they get carried away. The difference with Dundee IMO though is that Burley is a lot more grounded than that fanny Bonetti.

Re: Hearts

Yeah i agree with you about Burley being a sensible man. Thought id bring it up cause i found it interesting.

They should stick to loan signings i reckon cause say they buy all these players on big deals and then Romanov decides to pack it in. Hearts would be in the shit as it would be very difficult to find a backer with the same sort of money.

The same could be said of Chelsea but i see this differently as they would have a lot of interested parties, just obviously wouldnt have the mass of money Roman has.

Re: Hearts

The downside with loan signings is that if they do well, they then leave after a year to go somewhere else, and you're left with nothing. You then have to replace them, and there is no guarentee that the new players will be any good.

Better to sign players permanently, while living within your means

Re: Hearts

And there's no guarantee they will care about the club too much. If your club sends you off to foreign lands on loan, some will take the chance to get some experience and make a bit of a name for themself, while some will not give a damn, being so far from the team that pays their wages, and that they are signed to.

Although in Skacel Hearts have about as good a loan signing as you could hope for.

Re: Hearts

I think Skacel and Jankauskas are the only loan signings as far as I know. All the rest have 2 and in some cases 3 year contracts.

Talk of them adding another couple before the transfer window closes, Burley watched the Czech u21 and full team in action in midweek.

I don't quite know what Romanov hopes to achieve with Hearts. It will be very difficult to break the OF stranglehold if not impossible. Therefore he will miss out on any possible CL money.

There is also not enough money in Scottish football and wages of £10k a week are unsustainable on the crowds Hearts attract, even if Romanov is paying it himself.
