Ashley Cole........

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has revealed Ashley Cole wanted to see his salary tripled in recent discussions with Highbury officials.

And he also raised fears at the rise in "player power" in the wake of the Bosman ruling.

"If you take someone like Ashley Cole, he has another two years to go," Hill-Wood told the Evening Standard.

"He wanted something like three times what we are paying him. We said we can't do that."

Cole, who is believed to be on a salary of £27,000 a week, and his agent Jonathan Barrett have been involved in negotiations with the Gunners.

It is thought the club turned down an inital demand of about £70,000 a week but then put forward a "final offer" of £55,000 to the player, which Cole is reported to have rejected.

.....55 grand a week

Used to think this guy was a decent genuine guy when he first came onto the scene - but the older he's got he has just become an arrogant cock. Not even that great a defender anyways! Triple his wages?? Please - Agree with post 100%!

I don't know really, I read today that he had a verbal agreement for a new contract worth £60,000 a week :yikes But that was then rejected later by PHW & a max of £55k was offered instead...

A stupid amount of money agreed, & wage ceilings should be put in place by clubs. But to lose £5k a week, when you know you can get that & a lot more just down the road would make most people look at the options...

Greedy cnut agreed, but loyalty from staff or management in any workplace is hard to find these days..

Arsenal haven't handled it perfectly to be fair. I've heard several times that before Christmas a contract was all but agreed, then for Arsenal to lower their offer slightly, by £5,000 per week. Different figures have been quoted, but it seems Arsenal didn't stick to their word.

Will be interesting to see if he is still there in August. Clichy looks to have potential, so Arsenal may cash in

Yeah exactly Zonker. If I was Ashley Cole I would have been pissed off on principle. It wouldn't have been the money.

Supposedly they suppeoned the minutes of a board room meeting at Highbury which showed they had gone back on their word to Cole.

Oh, and Fergies a cnut btw.

I agree with you completely there Gett1n, if someone promises you something and then a short while later expects you to settle for less, it's not on, regardless of the amounts involved.

However, I think he knew meeting Chelsea was wrong. It will be interesting to see who this enquiry blames for setting up this meeting. Probably both sides are at fault, and will both end up with fines.

Wenger is correct though, why has it taken so long to decide things? Very convenient for Chelsea, while it's been something Arsenal could do without.

Think you are spot on there, Clichy is a ready made replacement for Cole & will fit straight in as has been seen already at times throughout the season.

Probably good business to shift Cole now when the big chequebook is waving..

Step up Harry Kewell

Liverpool footballer Harry Kewell is suing former England captain Gary Lineker for libel, after being left "shocked and hurt" by an article.

The 26-year-old Australian forward is seeking damages in London's High Court over comments made by Lineker in his Sunday Telegraph column in July 2003.

Lineker's column said Kewell's transfer from Leeds to Liverpool made him "ashamed" of football, the court heard.

Lineker and the paper deny libel and say the remarks were fair comment.

Kewell shouldnt waste his time with this and do something about his performances on the pitch, which since he has arrived - has been an absolute useless twat!
