NBA Star Dies Aged 28

Quote:
Atlanta Hawks center Jason Collier died Saturday morning, possibly of cardiac arrest, the team said.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Collier experienced chest pains and his wife performed CPR and called 911.
Atlanta players were notified of Collier's death at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning before a scheduled workout was cancelled.

The 7-foot, 260-pound Collier, a five-year NBA player, spent his first three seasons with Houston before joining Atlanta in 2003.

Collier played for Georgia Tech and was drafted by Milwaukee in the first round, with the 15th pick overall, in the 2000 NBA draft.
Now i don't want Alien anywhere near this thread

Always find it strange to find a completely fit and healthy sports star die, especially at such a young age.

Yes i know Alien many fit and healthy men die everyday but lets not go there for now ok.

Thoughts go out to his wife, and family

Re: NFL Star Dies Aged 28

Even at 7 foot 260 pounds is far too heavy Kiko. The chap must have been carrying some serious amounts of flab unless he was built like a bodybuilder. And it is very hard to get to 260 pounds without some artificial aids.

Of course my sympathies go to his family and I don't know anything about the case - just making some suppositions - but it seems young men are trying until their hearts literally give in to get to the top of their sports nowadays.

Tend to think it's hereditary more than anything, Gett1n.
Big guy though he was, he could have been expected to carry that frame for a good few years.
Remember Marc-Vivian Foe? Not a big bloke.
I'm struggling to think of other names but I know there are other top sports people who've gone before their time and I can think of nothing else since I'm loathe to believe the drugs (which in any case, would have been taken in a controlled environment) could have done this to him.

Re: NFL Star Dies Aged 28

NFL?.. You mean NBA Start died... I feel very sorry for the family and his friends. 28 years old isnīt a quarter of life!

Thats the official Statement of Atlanta Hawks:
Quote:
The Atlanta Spirit family is saddened to report the sudden passing of Hawks center Jason Collier, 28, this morning.

“Jason and his family are first and foremost in our prayers during this difficult time,” said Hawks Executive Vice President and General Manager Billy Knight. “Jason was a devoted family man who deeply loved his wife Katie, daughter Elezan (Ella), his parents and siblings. He was also a tremendous friend to the Hawks employees who spent time with him, and a hard-working and dedicated teammate to many NBA players over his five seasons in the league. We will truly miss Jason’s personality and his spirit, and he will be in the thoughts and minds of our team and organization forever.”

A five-year NBA veteran, Collier spent the last two seasons with the Hawks after playing his first three years with the Houston Rockets. He finished his collegiate career at Georgia Tech after transferring from Indiana University.

Born September 8, 1977 in Springfield, Ohio, Collier attended Central Catholic High School in Springfield.

Yeah that's why I thought he might be a big Fatty. When it said NFL I thought he was a defensive linebacker (or whatever they are called - you know the fat lumps).

Re: NFL Star Dies Aged 28

28 x 4 = 112 years ODM, but I know that the UKs are in trouble with maths,... your fractial odds show me this ( little joke sorry )

You want to die with 28 years ODM?

I will not die with 28, and I think he too! Sucess in the NBA, a family and good friends.I know that life isnīt forever, but I think that every human can enjoy as much as he can!..the life!

A new discussion have to begin in the proffessional sports world.A lot profis died in the last years. They arenīt fit but have to play... Lot Football Player and now a Basketballer died.. Thats not usually ... stop to make the players fit with pharmaceuticals!

Someone just like that who played for the San Francisco 49ers died in pre-season a few weeks ago I believe. That was heart related:

Re: NBA Star Dies Aged 28

Aye apoligies. It was NBA.

I guess one good thing is at least he managed to live his life to the fullest and had a comfortable life that will be left with his wife and any kids if he has any so thats the only good thing i can think of to come out of this.

I think the thing with sports stars is it seems kind of surreal as we grow up and they are like heroes, untouchable it seems when we know really they aren't and are just like any other human beings but i think you can know where i am coming from. So when one dies it does really shock us.

Re: NBA Star Dies Aged 28

was just thinking the same thing kiko. No compensation for losing a loved one really, but she wont be cleaning the local social club for a few quid will she. Least he will have a few bob.

You always think of sportsmen as super fit and above us in a way. Deffo a shock when the keel over
