Parker Appeal = Carr Banned

Quote:
Newcastle's Stephen Carr has received a one-match ban after team-mate Scott Parker's successful appeal against a booking in the game against Sunderland.
Parker, 25, was booked for a tackle on Andy Welsh during Sunday's 3-2 win but claimed mistaken identity.

The Football Association agreed and transferred the booking to Magpies defender Stephen Carr.

Carr, 29, was booked later in the game - meaning he effectively received two yellow cards - equating to a red.

This means the former Republic of Ireland right-back will serve a ban which will cover Wednesday's Carling Cup tie at Grimsby.

But Carr is struggling with a groin injury and would probably not have featured in that game.
Just reading that there. Never seen anything like this happening before in professional football at least, something similar happened to my side a few seasons back.

Be interesting to see Newcastle knew and thought that this would happen although they have been fortunate enough that its only the League Cup match he misses which i am sure he was missing through injury anyways so maybe Souness is a smarter man than we all thought he was.

Re: Parker Appeal = Carr Banned

Thats a bit ridiculous IMO.

When my mates and I were watching the highlights, and the commentator said 'If Carr had been booked earlier he would have been off after that' - to which we nearly all instantly said - 'Aye, but if he had been booked earlier he wouldn't have been flying into that tackle so recklessly.'

Of course, the FA obviously see it as punishing two yellow card challenges with two yellow cards.

Ach I dunno.

I haven't seen the incident Chris but it seems he knew exactly what he was doing with the appeal and it seems to have all worked in his favour so you can't fault him really and he deserves a bit of recognition for that i reckon.

Carr tripped the boy, no doubts about that, Parker got the booking due to a fud of a referee having eyesight problems.

First time I have ever seen a case of mistaken identity end up with the correct person getting a booking at appeal. I have heard of cards rescinded when the ref has reviewed the incident but never this.

Still, Newcastle knew what they were doing as Carr wasn't going to play in the cup anyway.
