England my England!

What you lot think? This a Scottish board?

I had a great day yesterday winning on domestic football (2 out of 3) and then watching England win at football, rugby union and holding their own on the most difficult away tour in cricket as well.

Has there ever been the strength across all three main team sports in this country before? A proud weekend to be English!

Land of Hope and Glory...............

I think you're forgetting that we're actually still shit at rugby union, and have been ever since the world cup.

Just like the English to go totally over the top after one result

Good display by England generally but I do hope the result doesn't blind everyone to the fact that Paul Konchesky was totally out of his depth and looked absolutely fuckin garbage.

Let's take the positives by all means but we also need to address the questions that arose out of the game like.

1. If King is supposed to be sitting in front of the back four and protecting them, how come the Argies had so much space on the edge of the 18 yard box TWICE in the first 10 minutes or so.

2. How the fuck is Konchesky wearing an England shirt.

I dont agree with that (unsurprisingly). I think England will prove themselves to be the second best team in the world this year. Then it will be between us and New Zealand in the next World Cup.

Crikey - can't we allow ourselves to be even slightly optimistic?

Yes, as long as we stay slightly optimistic when we lose the next friendly. Its the fact that we're world beaters one minute and completely useless the next that pisses me off.

I thought Owen was absolutely brilliant in the interview after the game yesterday. He was basically saying - We know we're good and one good or bad result doesn't alter our view either way.

Top man

Re: England my England!

Seems like the gaggle of punters clamouring for the 16/1 odds from Coral's and Ladbrokes for England wins in the cricket/football/rugby union are in a pretty good position.

Re: England my England!

I dont remember a friendly played with such passion, well ever really. I dont think I have been that excited about an England match for a very long time. Lets not do ourselves down, the Argies had a full strength team out there and we beat them. We were both playing 'away from home' so it wasnt even a home advantage that did for us.

Very impressive performance from Crouchy I thought. It has been proven now beyond doubt - that Croch is a very effective forward. The sheer size of him scares the shite out of opposition defenders and they go to pieces.

Oh and Rio should be the 4th choice central defender on current form.

We WILL win the world cup. Have faith boys...

John Motson seemed to think it was a World Cup match.

Re: England my England!

I thought we look exposed in our full backs but these were the two positions where we were not playing our first choices. Ashley Cole and Gary Neville will replace Bridge and Young I would imagine.

I thought Joe Cole did very well AFU and in my opinion it was him that turned the match round, not Crouch.

I would say that India is a harder away tour, although it isn't easy to win in Pakistan like.

Other than that I would agree, yesterday was a class day for English sport.

Re: England my England!

Mickey is just jealous AFU. All the Scots boys are. It must be a bit shit having such an awful national side represent you with no real chance of ever winning something. True England might not win the World Cup - almost certainly wont - but it is nice to be in with a chance isn't it?

Re: England my England!

Hello? I was referring to Motson crediting Owen with beating some record held by Lineker which relates to competitive matches. He had to quickly correct himself when he realised it was a friendly.
