Barcelona to join MLS

Just heard this on Sky Sports news.

Details are sketchy but Barcelona are looking to enter a new team into MLS under their name but with a whole new coaching staff and players to compete in the division.

Looking at this to improve the talent coming through their ranks as they feel the American league is one with real potential for them.

Great idea imo as MLS is vastly underrated i think. It isn't look upon very highly in the US and is on the samelevel as college sports so this should give it a boost.

Also the USA national side is ever improving and the quality of youngsters coming through is starting to show so a lot going for it just now.

Kiko - it's certainly an attractive market for any business to exploit. The next big thing in world football (if you believe the hype) is the American Freddy Adu. When his Ghanain mother was window shopping for a nationality she chose America over the rest. This doesnt mean that American football is on the up and up. He was destined for greatness at an early age... I am sure you have seen more of the American youngsters than I have Kiko, but I would be wary of thinking America is anything but a second or third rate world side.

The fact that they can tonk St Kitts and Nevis means no more than Australia qualifying from their group stage... It would be a disgrace if they didnt... Still, I think the USA could be a 'force' in football if they put their mind to it. No reason why not like - a big population and affluent nation....

Re: Barcelona to join MLS

Like i mentioned earlier its all the attitude towards football in the US that will hold it back from becoming, what i believe, could be a top nation.

Fair enough NBA, NFL etc all being far bigger but when college football and other sports are regarded higher than MLS it doesn't help.

TV coverage is very shite over there too of MLS so its a real battle they are having to make although attendancaes have been improving the past couple of years.

The youth sides of USA are starting to make a major impact also now at their levels so the future looks rather bright for them.

As for Adu. I reckon he could become his own worst enemy. Seems to be thinking he is some god or something now as he has already publicly slammed his manager for not playing him from the start enough.

Seems to feel he has some right to start but he is far too inconsistent for me right now. The talent is there, no doubt about that but he needs to use it EVERY game and not when he feels.

I feel he needs another couple of seasons in MLS too as if he was to go to a big club like Chelsea he would have very limited chances and this could prevent his progression.

Besagno is another player i fancy to make an impact and is another to watch out for.

Adu's mother didn't "choose" the US for nationality over other countries. He ended up in the US due to her winning some sort of national lottery thing in Ghana which gave her and her family a new life in the US.

Re: Barcelona to join MLS

Crowie - saw an interview with him on Eurosport a while back. He said that she had the option of becoming an Italian national and playing for Inter and most other European clubs at that time were interested in him - but they chose America...

Agree kiko that the lad seems to have his head stuck up his arse. Not easy though to keep a level head (I'd imagine) when people are telling you that you are the next big thing from the age of 12 eh...? Didnt he get $15k a week contract at 14? And I am sure Nike signed him up to a massive deal too at that age..... I would be a cock too if that were me...
