Re: Joey Barton
Must say everything said in here has been spot on regarding Barton and i think its disgusting he wants to leave right now after all the support etc he has recieved from City.
I have to admit i haven'tthought he was that great from when i have watched him bar being a battler and hit a couple of good goals and think he is pretty overrated imo. Best for City to sell him and move on.

Re: Joey Barton
Seems a very strange and sudden decision, I will also add a MP scratch head
If he is trying to force their hand, desperate to leave, then you would think that Liverpool would be his preferred destination or are in for him. But decent player (this season) that he is, I couldn't see him in front of Gerrard, Alonso or Sissoko. Why leave City to sit on Liverpool bench.

Re: Joey Barton
I was of the same thought Crowie untill i spotted Newcastle had been mentioned, its the sort of desperate measure Souness has become associated with in trying to buy his way out of trouble but Barton is not the answer and if it becomes a reality it has to be his last throw of the dice as i cannot see Sheperd digging deep (well he can't now untill the summer) and putting up with much more.

Re: Joey Barton
Barton is a good player The best midfielder we have and we cant afford to lose him.
Im getting increasingly worried at the lack of ambition at the club. He's a cunt but a good player and not over rated.

When the whole cigar in the eye party incident kicked off, apparently he'd been boasting to people that he earned £32,000 per week. Double that? Hmmm, I don't think anyone would be silly enough would they?

Re: Joey Barton
Aye Zonker I thought it was around that mark like. According to reports he has been offered double his current deal to sign again. Cant see any teams (even newcastle) who would be willing to pay circa £60'000 a week for Barton. Useful player he may well be, but that would be a mistake of huge proportions surely....

Re: Joey Barton
Quote:
The agent of Manchester City's Joey Barton has denied that money is behind the midfielder's transfer request.
The 23-year-old asked to leave after talks broke down, although the club are determined to keep him.
"I think he's a bit upset," Willie McKay told BBC Radio Five Live. "It's not just about money but where the club wants to go and where Joey wants to go.
"Joey had a conversation with Stuart Pearce and he said he was disappointed with the offer of his contract."
He added: "Speaking to Joey (on Monday), if Manchester City came up with much more than we asked at first I don't think he will sign it. That's just the way he is now.
"He's got 15 months of his contract left to go and I can assure Manchester City fans he will give 100% during that 15 months as he has done this season."
City claim they offered to increase Barton's £15,000-a-week wages to £28,750, which would have made him the second-highest paid player at the club.
But Mackay denied this: "I can assure you it's not double his contract.
"It's not just Manchester City, but when players come through their ranks they get taken for granted.
"If Manchester City had come back with the offer we asked for, which in my opinion is below what I think Joey should be getting anyway, then he would have signed the contract.
I will talk to him and I think something will be sorted out
Stuart Pearce
"As it turns out, he has asked for a transfer. It's nothing sinister, he has not been tapped up."
McKay also suggested that City only supported Barton to protect their interests.
"If he wasn't a fantastic young player or if he was only on the periphery of the team I don't think Manchester City would have stuck by him," he said.
"Would they have stuck by him if he was a below average player?"
Barton turned up at City's training ground as usual on Tuesday.
And BBC Sport understands Manchester United have not been in contact with him, as some reports had suggested. Pearce stood by Barton after the player was sent home from City's pre-season tour of Thailand in July 2005 for an altercation with a 15-year-old Everton fan.

And the manager admitted he was disappointed with how Barton had repaid the club.
"I wouldn't have done what Joey did after the club stood by him in the summer," said Pearce.
"I am disappointed, but more for the fans and chairman. But we hope to secure him on a long-term contract. I will talk to him and I think something will be sorted out."
The City board are steadfast in their belief their original offer would not be increased.
"No, we won't increase it," said Pearce. "The club has made Joey a fantastic offer but his agent has said it wasn't about money, so I need to talk to him and found out what the situation is about."
I think Barton is just trying to renegotiate his contract with City

The midfielder only has until the end of 31 January to secure a deal before the transfer window closes.
He has already attracted interest from several Premiership clubs, including Birmingham and Charlton, and turned down a £4.5m offer from Middlesbrough two weeks' ago.

Re: Joey Barton
If that's from the BBC, they make so many mistakes with that sort of thing AFU. I'm not saying he is on £32,000 per week, but if several witnesses said this is what he was saying at the infamous Christmas party, it carries more weight than random people at the BBC guessing. I've emailed them literally dozens of times about sport stories they've made massive factual errors with.

Re: Joey Barton
Looks like there might be an end in site to the Barton incident....
Quote:
Joey Barton could be set to hold more talks with Manchester City that could end his dispute over a new contract.
The 23-year-old midfielder handed in a transfer request last week.
It is understood he turned down an offer that with win bonuses and appearance money would have doubled his £14,000-per-week salary.
Barton's agent Willie McKay told the Manchester Evening News: "If City came back with the same figure as a basic salary I would advise him to sign it."
|
Only wanted to update the thread so I could put this picture up of him. Looks like he is about to give us a bit of leg spin or something. Thought he was a footballer...?

Re: Joey Barton

Quote:
Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce says the club have made unsettled midfielder Joey Barton a revised contract offer.
Barton rejected City's offer of a new contract a fortnight ago and handed in a transfer request, which was rejected.
The new deal is only thought to involve minor revisions but Pearce hopes it will be enough to persuade the 23-year-old to stay at Eastlands.
"We hope he stays because it would be very good for him," said Pearce. "I want us to flourish together."
Barton scored in City's 3-2 win against Charlton on Sunday and suggested afterwards he could stay beyond the end of his current deal, which expires in 2007.
"The talks are going quite well and I hope to sign shortly," said Barton.
The player came in for some heavy criticism for his actions towards a club that has stood by him through some stormy times.
Last summer, he was sent home from a pre-season tour of Thailand following an altercation with a 15-year-old Everton fan.
Barton was unhappy with City's initial offer - which was reportedly set to double his salary to £28,000-a-week.
|
He's worth 40,000K a week from what i've seen of him lately. City have got to keep hold of him, what a cracking goal today too.

Not a bad start to the season for him, he surely has to leave us soon along with Richards, clearly we are going down with pearce the plonker, 5 games into the season and our strikers have scored 0 goals, thats corradi and dickov who he sticks with, great isnt it, two old bastards with no pace, a less than 1 in 3 record respectively, but oh wait they both work hard and pearce loves that, maybe we should make a team of hardworking left backs, why not?
