Joey Barton

I bet that gets Keem, Slick, Chris and BlueK rushing in

BBC reports that he has handed in a transfer request.

Has he been tapped up or is it just a negotiating position over money

Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton has stunned the club by handing in a transfer request.

City opened contract talks with the 23-year-old midfielder last week and manager Stuart Pearce has said he is determined to hang on to him.

The club quickly rejected the request, saying they wanted to continue talks.

"The manager has publicly stated his desire to keep the player at Manchester City," said a statement on the club's official website.

"A second round of negotiations between the club and the player's representatives took place on Monday and Manchester City wishes to continue those talks."

Barton has come through some troubled times to produce some impressive displays for City this season.

In December 2004, he pushed a lit cigar into the eye of young team-mate Jamie Tandy during club's Christmas party and was fined six weeks' wages by City.

The player was sent home from a pre-season tour of Thailand in July 2005 after being involved in an altercation with a 15-year-old Everton fan in Bangkok.

Pearce stood by Barton after the Thailand incident, and he has responded with some impressive displays which led some to suggest that he might win an England call-up.

It is understood he was offered a new contract worth double his current deal - but he has turned it down.

Re: Joey Barton

After the way Pearce has treated Barton, I am very suprised at this behaviour....

Apparently offered double his current deal and he turned it down. Scumbag.

Re: Joey Barton

Not many clubs could (or would want to) buy Barton. Say he's on £20k a week and refuses double that (according to the story) - who could afford to pay Barton more than 40 grand a week??? Only club I can see that could afford him and need that type of player is United, possibly Arsenal too. Newcastle too are game for anyone these days - bit of a bad lad for them all I'd say....

Re: Joey Barton

I say treat him like the ungrateful cnut he is and let him rot in the reserves until his contract runs out then let him fuk off for free. He's not half the player he thinks he is and as has been said city dont deserve this after how they stuck by him . Could be argued that we had to as he's not a bad little player and that's true but it doesn't matter anymore . Players come and go and I dont get attached to them anymore but I would pay to boo that cnut should he ever show his spotty ugly face at my club again

Re: Joey Barton

After what his brother did, cant see him being very popular at Anfield. It just seems strange that he should act up like this right before the end of the Transfer Window. Why not 2 weeks ago and then maybe get a move away? Seems very odd to me. A mickey-paul esque scratch of the head is in order hmmmmm arrrr thats better

Agreed keem that the guy seems like a little twat. Shame though because I think he's alright too. Still have Kevin Nolan over him..... please....

Re: Joey Barton

Get what we can for him i say, its obvious a bigger club is on his tail so lets milk it for what its worth.

City have stood by Barton through thick and thin and he obviously thinks he's a better player than he is.
He's a bread and butter player who you see week in week out in the lower leagues, Dickov would have done a better job for us in that position and he could finish too unlike Barton who seems to think he can score from 30-40 yards out and can't resist having a pop from there @ least 3 or 4 times a game and fcuking up good positional play with it on numberous occasions.

He's a decent club player and if its Fergie after him then it shows how desperate the rags are as Barton is no Keane but a liability who explodes more often than not because of frustration through his own inadequacies .

Re: Joey Barton

Soz didnt read all the thread b4 i answered, well if its Newcastle we'll get a good price for an average player and if Souness thinks he's gonna bail him out of the shite then he's wrong, Barton plays when the team does and cannot grab a game by the scruff of the neck like top midfield players can.
I'd be interested to see what price we get for him as anything over 3 million will be a joke.

Re: Joey Barton

Aye Keema if we could afford it then fair enough, i'd sell him and pay some of the debt off or invest it in the kids or new players, something that will be beneficial in the long run. I have a feeling were gonna get a silly price for him so lets take it and laugh @ who ever buys him expecting a saviour.
