Players moving to Chelsea

Was just thinking about how a lot of players really suffer when moving to Chelsea.

If you were a player but not absolute proven world class quality would you go there? I realy wouldnt.

Look at Sean Wright Phillips, what an awul career move.

Also whats Cudicini playing at? Best keeper in the league then just settles for a place on the bench and the odd cup game. I hear he has or is signing a new contract, WHY. Such lack of ambition surely.

Re: Players moving to Chelsea

Completely agree Mr M but i think there is a case you could argue for most of the top sides and just not Chelsea.

Couple that spring to mind. Alan Smith, Louis Saha at Man Utd although they are getting a bit of a run right now with Saha's mainly being cup games.

Real Madrid and Michael Owen. Cetic and Rangers with the young up and coming "stars".

It happens at many of the clubs and if i was a player with the big clubs after me i would certainly take my time on deciding who to go with.

Sides like Liverpool for example seem to be a good place to go as they have a manager who has confidence in his signings and will give them more than their fair share of chances in the side as has been proven with your Morientes for example.

Sorry, but that is such a stupid statement. You pay £6m for Morientes, and no doubt massive wages too, you're hardly not going to play him are you?

Look at a few other players that Benitez signed: Josemi and Nunez, both hardly played and have had to return to Spain. Pellegrino didn't play in all of the games and also was allowed to return to Spain.

Scott Carson plays the odd game here and there, but certainly won't get much of a chance. Zenden signed and hadn't made many starts before he got injured.

Strictly speaking, Benitez was manager when Cisse was signed (even though Houllier set up the transfer). Benitez said at the time he wanted to sign him for Valencia and was delighted to sign him, but he doesn't exactly start many games, and is even played on the right wing at times when he has said he wants to play as a striker.

Liverpool are just like other clubs who have a big squad and certain players have to wait their chance.

Re: Players moving to Chelsea

I agree. I dont understand why all these amazingly talented players flock to Chelsea, well I do really its for the cash plain and simple. It has to be as they are all great players that could earn maybe not as much but still loads elsewhere and get a game most weeks. Its not as if in this day and age that Chelsea are the only team prepared to pay stupid amounts of money to kick a ball around.

The thing that pisses me off more is the old firm with young scottish players, to be fair up until this transfer window they didnt seem as bad with a few scottish players getting a look in at Celtic and Rangers just ignoring scots but before McCleish Rangers signed, didnt play and then offloaded quite a lot of good young talent, which in my opinion certainly set those players back a few years and didnt help our national team. Paul Ritchie and Kenny Miller are two that spring to mind. I can to an extent understand players going to Chelsea even though it might not be the best desision football wise but not really the old firm. If I was a young talent in the scottish game and had some confidence in my ability I would get myself down to a championship side in England for less cash and learn my trade and improve my game rather than go to the old firm for the cash, I mean yer a footy player, your going to get your money if you produce.

Being a Killie fan I was hoping Boyd wouldnt go to Rangers as I admire his talent and want him to go on and do well, I just hope he doesnt end up taking Thompsons place on the bench but he's started well so , actually I'll let Boyd off because he is a Rangers fan so you can understand it being hard to turn down.

Re: Players moving to Chelsea

I have no sympathy for any player who signs for Chelsea and then hardly sees a game...they went for cash...they get the cash whether they play or not...so shut up.

If you really want to be playing 1st team footy week after week...guaranteed...you DO NOT join clubs like Chelsea...too many already there...join the Q, Greedy shite!
A lot of players are happy to fight for a place, maybe enjoy the challenge, Joe Cole has shown people what can be done if you work hard and have the talent...for SWP I'd say he should be looking at Joe Cole as a role model...get in there, son...let Jose see what you can do when given the chance.

Overall, you believe it's the best move because of the set up , facilities, manager, players , opportunity.......OR Money. Probably not as black and white as that, but it's how it comes over to me.
