I dont think its fair to criticise the midfield for scoring or taking shots - maybe it underlines a lack of confidence in the strikeforce.

I don't criticise them for taking shots or scoring goals...no way...that's PART of their role in the team. My point was that the accepted method of build up didn't seem to 'respect' the role of their strikers. Passed them by, in many ways. Made 'scoring' the MAIN part of their role. That's not the way to be.
True that the frontmen have squandered many chances , but in the matches I've seen they are having the 'options' taken out of their control..that's my point...I guess..in a nutshell.
5-1...brilliant, but again if you looked at that match dispassionately, the last 2 goals were 'given up' rather than fought for. I don't like to seem as though I'm sniping, but that's the way I see it. Fulham's equaliser, followed by an 'og', then you had to wait until the 71st minute for the 3rd....just not impressive enough for me to think they are back on track.
Newcastle were awful in defence against Manyoo, but The Glennster may move that around to make sure it's not the same this time.
Fowler is a key man...he changes their shape and increases their options....he inspires the others from what I see. Crouch an inpsiration? No way. Morrie? Cisse?..all nope...on their game they are excellent, just like most strikers, but it's how you scramble a goal when you're struggling...that's a attribute to admire.
Start Fowler, give him 60-70 on the clock...see what happens. That will bring the relative roles back into focus in my opinion...he will be demanding the ball , and his positioning will make it hard for anyone to choose a better option...that's his gift. That's what he brings to the club. Maybe not at Man City, but he never looked that happy there anyway.
He's not a 1 man answer, but he is a good place to start looking.
