Funking Beira Mar, wish they'd get their heads out of their arses and just admit they're in breach of Paul Murrays contract. We've got the best midfielder in the bottom division sitting on his arse cause these Portugese wankers can't admit they're wrong. Tossers!

Another thing, funking Cumbrians, always complaining about stuff!

I'm not sure what you're talking about there, I think you'll find that Clive Woodward began his playing career with Leicester in 1979, winning 21 rugby caps. I have a feeling he went off and played a bit of touch rugby down under for a couple of years, but certainly a rugby man, not from touch rugby.

Then there's flanker Andy Robinson (a position that doesn't even exist in touch rubgy ) as number 2.

Re: Just blowing a bit of steam off !!!!

what about phil larder?

The best player was from League too (ok joint best player)

I remember Wigam gubbing Bath at League and oh so nearly beating them at Union.
This current crop of players look like lawyers playing for fun , no bollocks

Re: Just blowing a bit of steam off !!!!

So you've gone from "all the coaches" to one coach, brilliant.

IMO the best player was Wilkinson, don't think anyone can argue with that (and that's before his kicking).

Robinson was good, but no better than most - his best form came within a year or so of getting in the team, when people didn't know what to expect. Once everyone realised what he was all about (which had happened by the world cup) he was not nearly as effective.

As for the games between Wigan and Bath - you can't really expect any different, seeing as most of them will have grown up playing some rugby, whereas the rugby guys have probably never even tried touch rugby.

Re: Just blowing a bit of steam off !!!!

well Joe Lydon (the wife beating drunk) is a head coach as is Shaun Edwards in union. Best players on the lions tour to SA were from league , Quinell and eeer so on , ok he learnt how to win playing league

There's just too many rules in Union , this bunch of spineless public school tossers aren't fit to lace the boots of Billy Boston.
Johnathan Davies who was a legend at both codes always said that he'd rather play union cos it's not as tough and he'd rather watch League.

With all due respect to your goodself Dave , he knows what he's talking about

Re: Just blowing a bit of steam off !!!!

I grew up watching Union and thinking it was a much better game than League.

In the ninties union began to bore me rigid and now after one season watching Superleague with an open mind I am a convert.

What exactly is the attraction of watching a "contested scrum" (which is invariably won by the side putting in anyway.)

And as for tackling - union people still talk about Mickey Skinners tackle during the World cup quarter final on 1991, the sort of tackle you see 3 or 4 times in every game of League.

What about Kicking - A strategical part of league - In union most kicks go straight into touch.

Rucking,Mauling bah get on your feet and get on with the game.

1991 World Cup Final and David Campeses deliberate knock on to prevent England from scoring. Won them the game - In League it would be an immediate new set of 6 and little advantage gained.

Union is all about kicking penalties - League is all about scoring tries

In this situation now a penalty try would be awarded.

Kicking into touch does not mean it is not strategic - Ireland have often built successful teams around this very well thought out tactic.

As for contestested scrums, I suggest you watch a video of England v Australia last autumn for the attraction.

There's nothing like a rolling maul for sheer spectacle in sport IMO

You are correct that kicking penalties is important in rugby, as well as drop goals and tries. All you need in touch rugby is power and speed - if I want to see that I'll watch Athletics.

I do watch "Super" League, so I'm not saying all this without knowing anything about touch rugby btw.

Re: Just blowing a bit of steam off !!!!

But you started extolling the virtues of contested scrums which are about Power, and what else exactly.

And the point about Campese is that in union it is often the case that clever teams will give away penalties rather than concede tries wheras League rules penalise teams.

And Union is about Power and Speed as well - that is Rugby in General.

Line outs are a farce as well.

At the end of the day Try scoring is the most exiting part of rugby and defending your line with solid tackling, something you see more of in League then Union (IMO)
