Re: Getting Started

Here's a quick step by step guide to getting about your newly created TDP Site. I'll do better demos in time but it really is simple but effective and thats the beauty in it. They sell themelves. People just have to realise the possibilities.

Quote:
Here’s a quick couple of basic steps for those that will undoubtably take me up on this offer. It don’t matter if daabl is shit for now as like your website it will grow in time. It’s like having your own little bit of the garden. You dont know gardening but you like strawberries and you want to grow some to eat. Someone gives you a wee plot and sets it all up nice for you with a wee fence all around it which you chose at B&Q one Sunday afternoon. He gave you the tools and nudged you in the right direction on how to plant the strawberry seeds which you did and did it well. He was there to offer advice along the way and showed you all the possible variables along the road and let you decide when to eat your strawberries and then plant some more. He watched your fevourish interest in strawberry growing grow and wished you luck if you became to big for the plot and you wanted to get your own garden. Actually this aint helping you much is it?

* Log into your admin

* Look at top menu and choose OPTIONS (top right) After clicking you will be presented with some options on the black menu below OPTIONS over to the left. Dont worry about them for now and look below. Change what you want there. I’ll tell you more about the other options later but click away as your the boss.

* PRESENTATION. Click on theme, view site.

* PRESENTATION>>>Widgets (top left) and then drag and drop widgets. Widgets guide to come when i know what widgets are myself. Ifyou get the message about ‘no widgets for this theme’ then you cant use widgets for it. I dont think thats too much of a prob though as all the themes have the basics to get on.

* Top menu again, BLOGROLL. Click edit on one of the defaulted links and change it to suit your needs. Important bit to know here though is to look to the right (below Categories) and note TARGET. Click the + and then you’ll see 3 options. Choose BLANK. This will open the link in a new window and thus keep your page still handy. You dont want to drive people away from your site. I dont actually know what the other 2 are but one will be open in the same window and the other i couldnt hazzard a guess at.

* Also note CATEGORIES on the right of your Blogroll page and also when your writting a post. Click whatever catergories you want the post/blogroll link to be included in or ADD your own (enter text and click ADD on the right) dont forget to check or uncheck the categories list before clicking PUBLISH or SAVE CHANGES

* Ok still on the top menu WRITE. You’ll note that top left (below DASHBOARD) you can write POST or PAGE. I always forget to click PAGE when i want to write a page so watch out. a POST is just as you think on your rolling front page. A PAGE is just that. Another webpage. Put anything you want on it and folks can view it and it will show up on your page list menu. When posting make sure your in the defaulted Visual mode (as apposed to Code) Again remember to add it to whatever category you want to on the right before posting. A cool feature is bottom right of the posting page. Timestamp feature. Use that to make your posts and pages appear at whatever time you set. An example would be if your in a right posty mood late one night you could easily set it up so as your posts will appear at set intevals throughout the day or night. This could give the impression of a lively site.

* MANAGE (look for submenu below it after clicking) and manage things as you see fit. More info on the Import and Export to follow.

* COMMENTS is as you’d expect in that you can manage the comments to your posts and pages (if you allow commenting on your posts and pages) You can also let people join your site and give them priviliges like posting or adding links or admin etc.

* which leads us nicely on to USERS. More to follow on that but as you see it’s where you manage your usrs (if you allow users to your site)

Re: Getting Started

Step-by-Step Tutorial on How to Blog

The only real differance between having your wordpress blog hosted on wordpress to TDP is that you will have people that are interested in what your saying all about you at TDP. also we might be a bit more liberal too but that is yet to be sorted out. That video should cover most things but i must warn you the guy is very boring. Obviously any problems just ask in this forum.

EDIT: Dont worry about the stupid add a picture bit at the start. I dont think we do that. If you get into your admin then start about 8:20min in

Re: Getting Started

Hi, i've created one called Premier Tips with email address of PremierTips@hotmail.com, but the confirmation email seems to have disappeared into the void. Is it possible for someone to get it re-sent to that address please?

Re: Getting Started

no probs PT. I'll confirm it and i'll get Mike TV to PM you PT. I will have to look into what i have planned for paid tipster services (if thats what yours will be PT) but i'm sure it will be agreeable to both parties. I will sort the 'protect contect' plugin so as you can only have your picks viewable to those that have paid for your service. again a betting record is expected to be kept. More details to follow.

Re: Getting Started

pm sent. Any questions just ask PT. Please remeber that these blogs are your property but TDP reserves the rights to only host blogs that they deem appropriate. I'm sure that we can all work together for a greater goal.

Re: Getting Started

Dont forget to advertise your blog PT. It wont do anyone much good if no one knows about it. im sure that you are apt in the ways of advertising though.

Just to remind folks about OPTIONS>>>READING admin page. Have a play about in there if you havent already

Re: Getting Started

I'm hoping to make it a paid site in the future but as i am just starting out i would want everyone to see my record first (i.e. How many losers can i pick in one week!) As for keeping a record of my picks, do i just create a file in Excel and upload it? Or are their custom-made logs available?
And thanks for all your help. I have posted my first pick today!
