Slick: blogs on the root

slick ive managed to put the blogs on daabl root and the joomla install on a /main/ extention. Im gonna look at putting a redirect from the root to the /main/ so as i dont have to bother with doing a wordpress home page. Obviously having an addy for folks with no /sites/ on it would be better for TDP blogs and could help us sell them in future. How easy is this gonna be to move things and shall we go for it?

I'll intruct any probs on daabl as i go. I can move the joomla instal easy enough on FP just need to try and move the blogs

The redirect has screwed everything up slick. I had to reinstall joomla for a reason and it put it on main/main folder but was showing as /main. then the root wasnt redirecting it ....well it was it was going to /main which now was main/main come to think of it. It was the reinstal that screwed things up thinking of it. actually daabl,com/links isnt working now so i'll bin that idea.

The new and hopefully better plan is for me to change the wordpress index file to a nice big colourful picture with a 'come inside' link to the joomla home page. We could add links to the picture 'splash' page. I cant do sod all now as i have a wordpress index i can't get at due to the redirect, a links page i cant see and a joomla install on main/main i'll need on main. On top of that i have no heater and im running about to keep warm, im skint and im starving and im bloody tired. Oh and all i have to look forward to is 2 hours hard mopping and walk home. still i will have a warm bed to go to and my new mobby to play with on the walk. No rush about this just thought i would give us time to think

well im pretty chuffed the way things have all worked out slick. this is what ive been trying to do for the past year i think. I have a nice index page on the root that i can do manually and maybe get a bit creative on. I can use antenna and Dreamweaver and spruce up on my html. also we should be able to add 'calls' to the index and thats what im gonna go have a look at the now.

then we have the main site which is joomla and i know that inside out, back to front and upside down by now (going for the cummonity look i think) then ive got my links page which i may or may not wrap. aye lots to learn and lots to be done. once you pop you cant stop

bollocks too good to be true the subdomains are just going to the root page. It was ok earlier. I wonder whats changed

ah their not. It's because i changes the index file. good. i think. so all i need to do is to make the theme the way i like it. Just a bummer i cant be arsed with templates. I'll do it last.

Only problem with trying to do that is the Wordpress index.php will take over the joomla frontpage, give me a shout if anything goes wrong.

Aye i was gonna move the joomla to off the root slick. I dont care at the mo as who wants a blog anyhow. Web sites are shite and folks should get a life. I think we could/should look into it slick. Actually no i did and everything worked well when i went for the same stucture on daabl. I just got rid of the wordpress and joola side of things slick as i cant be arsed doing more things and i should finish things im doing already. Ae we can do it slick but we'll have to be ready for a big job. Mick will have to come out of retiremnt and marital bliss even if it is just for 2 nights running. The wordpress index will be our frontpage as mentioned and i suggest turning that into mainly a big picture and also have links to whatever we need linked to on there. Just pure html links or the wordpress blog roll even would be easier. We should make that page also be as much like The Racing Post splash page and have the option to enter forum and main site (yes the main site will be a website) we could have all the links nicely down below a nice big header picture.

The big thing though slick is moving the blogs from ...well losing the /sites/ extention to them. We should be able to move the blogs i would say. that would be a better stucture to things. I'll move the joomla to /main/ on the root. Not just now but when we're set. Then Mick can get into Wordpress and the front page and links etc and i can get on with looking at making an interesting gambling website on the main. The forum just goes on as usual with me with bugbears etc

the frontpage backup is ove 1gb in size. that cant be right. im gonna go back to bed as being up is shite. If i cant movve the joomla slick im just gonna start it again. I'll just redo it on /main/ and we can look at moving the blogs onto the root.

It all works fine slick and be good to have it all solid in place. Moving the blogs and customising the kubrick theme(or another) is all we have to do. Once thats done things will be sweet. we can reso the partner links and Pages etc as we go. lets do it and then we can maybe look at finishing things finally up. we can relax then. Aye be easy. sod it im aint going to bed im gonna go make a start. Suppose a new joomla install will be the thing to do. Its the menus and wraps thats the prob for me. I cant have the football pages with pull down menus. Aye right ill sort that slick you and if you see Mick sort the wordpress out. Lets get it bunged full of links left right and cedntre and have foilks linking to us. we only have 300in bound links left and we need 10 times that imo. Lets get it done once and for all. Im even consdering going back out and about now ive got my cameraphone etc. be good to have it all sorted for then. 2 weeks solid work. Nope im gonna do it in one starting now.

nah i'll leave it for now slick as with the cloner (see components) we might just be able to move it easily enough. I think i could even move it manually. Maybe i could try. It's on my own head i suppose. Be a shame to lose all them uk football wraps.

ah i see. im backing up the whole root i just need the joomla files. thats why its over a gb

might not be out the woods yet on the joomla side slick. I note that the links at the top stil go to the old addresses. Still ive got the links i was wanting save and if it means reinstalling a few things i can live with that. Nah the links are still the old ones. I think i need to delete all the old joomla. Actually i'll go delete some important files on it and see if we're running still

well ive deleted things and its still working. Its not using the main/ extention tho slick. Tell you what you can delete everything you want in the root slick especially the joomla stuff and if it fcuks me over then thats my fault. Right lets look at moving wpmu. Not much on it slick but looks tricky. I asked here but theyre a funny bunch of no answerers

Komp give me a rundown of what exactly needs doing and i'll have a look at it, its a nightmare reading ure posts as i can never grasp where ure upto or what ure trying to do.

Lay it down as abc etc and i'll get onto it when i get home.
