Great stuff mate. I presume you laid some off yesterday? Hope you have some more left. I can't see her winning today but you must be well well up on her overall?

Betfair spokesman on Henin-Bartoli carnage for punters

2120:
Marion Bartoli, a 999/1 chance before the tournament started, is now one match away from winning the Wimbledon title.

The unheralded Frenchwoman looked set to bow out as expected in her semi-final against world number one Justine Henin after losing the first set 6-1.

But in a remarkable turnaround Bartoli levelled the contest by taking the second set 7-5 before brushing aside the stunned Henin 6-1 in the decider.
One Betfair punter had £184 on Bartoli at 129/1 in-running but it was the amounts staked on Henin at massive odds-on that marked the match out as one of the most astonishing sports betting events ever.
At 6-1 and 1-0 up with a break, Henin, who started the match as the 1/20 favourite, was backed at the minimum odds of 1/100 on Betfair.

An amazing £447,574 was matched on Henin at 1/100, with £797,119 at 1/50, and a further £809,490 at 1/33.

In total over £4m was matched on Henin at 1/20 or shorter.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin said: "Winners at the maximum price of 999/1 are regular occurrences on Betfair these days, but I have never seen anything like this.

"Those who backed Henin at 1/100 may be devastated, but the Betfair punters who laid them the bets have effectively backed a 100/1 winner in a two-runner race.

"But even that was eclipsed by those who secured odds of up to 129/1 about Bartoli."

Bartoli now plays three-time winner Venus Williams in the final after the American came through 6-2 6-4 against Ana Ivanovic.

Cheers Wittmann. To be honest I could've played it a bit better, I'd say, but I'm still in a very nice position. Backed her at prices between 650 and 1000 in the opening rounds (that price I put of 894 (I think) was the average odds), but then laid a fair chunk off before the Jankovic game as I didn't really fancy her chances there. Let what I had left ride through the QF against Krajicek, but then laid off another chunk before the SF. Still, I'm looking at a 3 figure profit if Venus wins and 4 figures if Bartoli wins, and by my stakes, which I'd guess are pretty small compared to many peoples, that's a very nice profit. Just wish I'd had more faith in her earlier in the tournament, but still can't complain.

Easy to be hard on yourself with hindsight. I was in a very similar situation a few years ago when I'd backed Paula Suarez at low stakes massive odds when she made the SF at Roland Garros. I could have taken a low 3 figure profit by laying her at the SF stage against Dementieva. I figured that it would be close and decided to let it ride. She proceeded to fall apart and her career has gone down the toilet since.

I'd have done the same thing myself if I was in your shoes. If I hadn't a punt on Williams to win in str sets I'd be cheering for you

No worries. If Bartoli takes the first set though (or the second one for that matter), you can cheer for her to take the next one too

I'm not too hopeful really, but having said that, I'd give Bartoli a better chance today than I did against Henin yesterday.

Fingers crossed anyway

Oh well, wasn't to be for Bartoli. If she had to lose, at least it was in straight sets for those of you on Venus 2-0.

Re: Wimbledon women's event 25 June - 8 July

Wimbedlon finished very well with Williams carrying home a big single and two legs of a voided double in the Nadal-Djokovic match. Annoyed it did not finish as Nadal was well on for a 3-1 victory and that would have been a very swet payout but still she saved my bacon on the ladies side.

Very enjoyable final even if the outcome was never in doubt after Venus took the first set. Well done Bartoli
