Re: Tennis 5th August - 12th August - Montreal (ATP) & JP Morgan Open (WTA)

I’m not a Roddick fan style wise and I like Baggy a lot as a player and as a stylist who brings some colour to the tour but I thought he played very erratically last night. His serve has been very inconsistent and I think that this will give Roddick a big edge. What also swings it for me towards Roddick is his recent brilliant tie break record this year (29-7 all surfaces) and 14-3 on hardcourt.

Just one from the ladies tonight although I might add a correct set score bet later;

Dementieva-Hantchova

Two in form players meet but I’m leabing towards Dementieva for a number of reasons – her h to h is 7-1 (3-1 on hard) and she has been winning her matches a lot easier than Hantchova who was very wasteful last night against Craybas a player she has bossed in previous meetings. Dementieva’s serve is still vulnerable (although the dfs are not as bad as they were) but she seems to be hitting her groundstrokes with a lot of power and pace and I think Hantchova might have peaked earlier in the summer.

1.75 Units Dementieva @ 1.83

Re: Tennis 5th August - 12th August - Montreal (ATP) & JP Morgan Open (WTA)

Nice write up as usual, Wittman.

Not much from me today.
I think Mirza has had a terrific summer but I´m wondering how much gas she has in the tank. Razzano would be a trade for me if this hadn´t been playing way past my bedtime.

As far as Roddick goes, Baghdatis has far more tennis than the Yank and does well in the bigger events (my problem with Baghdatis is that he doesn´t do enough in the bread and butter stuff) but it´s hard to see him getting on top of that serve and Roddick will be motivated again at home. Don´t know what to say abut the odds.
If the serve fails and we get some tennis then the odds are crap. I suppose the bet is: will the serve dominate? 1,60 for a yes.

Great chance I see today in Rodick - Djokovic match many, many games to be played. I was trying to stay away from the over/under market, but I can't miss VCbet's offer - over 23.5 games @1.80. Djokovic has better chances, really, but Roddick should take his service games and this match could turn to be a 3-setter. If not - even 7:5, 7:5 could be enough.

Re: Tennis 5th August - 12th August - Montreal (ATP) & JP Morgan Open (WTA)

Good spot engineer. This should be close. Very hard to break Andy's serve and an excellent chance of a tb and / or a third set here.

2 from 3 yesterday. Big stakes nap Djoko gave Nalbandian absolutely no chance. Hardcourt is definitely his best surface. I broke the rule of Verdasco at my peril (lay when favourite , back when dog) and assumed having won the first set he’d carry it home. Fat chance.

The Nadal – PHM game was an absolute stormer (for 2 and a half sets anyway). Yet as he nurses a 6th straight loss to Nadal (having gone a set ahead for the third game in a row) Mathieu will have to accept that he blew this game. 95% of the tie he played some incredible tennis. The power he was generating consistently was the match of Nadal’s and his shot placement was running Nadal from side to side. The brutal fact however was the 5% when it mattered was when Mathieu choked. Nadal’s second service game in the second set saw PHM at 15-40. He then blew both initial bps with wild shots that were 5-6 feet out. A further few advantages were squandered subsequently. Mathieu has the skills of a top 10 player but unfortunately the mental strength of a top 50 player. Maybe he will get the Nadal monkey of his back but as of this moment he is well and truly owned.

Caught the first set of Baggy and Roddick. Like Peter said came down to serve’s and Baggy’s was woefully inconsistent. When the serve is firing the Cypriot can beat almost anyone. When its not he can look very ordinary.

Just one for today in the mens

Davydenko-Stepanek

I think Stepanek rode his luck a bit during this event so far. Gonzo should have beaten him and Haas yesterday looked out of sorts if the highlights are anything to go by. Davydenko is one of the best returners in the game and if Stepanek serves like he did yesterday I can see the dodgy Russian putting him to the sword. The H to H is surprisingly 3 apiece but this is a first hardcourt Masters QF for Stepanek who seems to be performing above himself in the US at the moment. I dislike both these players for different reasons (Stepanek for his gamesmanship and Davydenko for his untrustworthiness) and it pains me but I think Davydenko is some value here.

1.75 Units Davydenko @ 1.73

In the ladies just the ones as well

KIrilenko-Ivanovic

Ivanovic back froma long post Wimbeldon lay off much stronger than I expected but she faces a player in an excellent run of form. She has trashed Kirlenko twice on hardcourt in 2005 but the Russian girl must be more confident today of at least making Ivanovic work hard for victory.

0.75 Units Kirlenko @ 3.95
0.25 Units Ivanovic 2-1 @ 4.2

Re: Tennis 5th August - 12th August - Montreal (ATP) & JP Morgan Open (WTA)

davydenko @1.7

this is my last bet for tennis this week, i have one running NADAL outright winner

davydenko over stepanek, match starts in 20 minutes, i think the russian has too much for unstable stepanek, the czech's wins over haas and gonzo were expected some how, coz both are out of form, especially gonzo is shadow of player...stepanrk moving very often to the net, non in convincing way though, and russian is gonna punish him imo,

large stakes on davy win, normal stakes for a straight 2-0

good luck!

Did it occur?

That's OK then tptkas Do you often sign up to new forums just to after-event? Feel free to sign up to another new one after today won't you. Sooner or later you might find one that won't tell you to stop being a prick. I doubt it, but do keep looking, won't you.

Re: Tennis 5th August - 12th August - Montreal (ATP) & JP Morgan Open (WTA)

welcome new member

my fear became truth:

Djokovic v Nadal at semis

i rate djokovic at the same level of nadal, and above federer potentially( both players are 20-21 while federer is 26)

i strongly beleive that djoko can win this semi

nadal is great -king player on clay, and very impressive grass player, however , not so efficient on hard courts

djoko is the most talented youngster, a real mental giant, he stands in court and players at the opposide thinking "jesus, i cant beat him"

djoko can beat 95% atp players with just mental strength, but nadal is nothing less, equal in mental power, just little bit uncomfortable in any hard surface

fifty fifty clash for me,

i go with djokovic, not only to cover my outright bet on nadal, but also because i beleive he will win

djokovic to win all the way, i am in bad shape lately, but i think this is a decent choice

good luck all!

Hard to pick a winner, must admit that the gut is telling me Djokovic.

I seem to have a mental problem in betting against Nadal.

Note to self: bet on Djokovic, especially if Nadal starts favourite.

Good luck to all

Re: Tennis 5th August - 12th August - Montreal (ATP) & JP Morgan Open (WTA)

Getting to the pointy end of the funnel now and the bets harder to find.

It´s called Roger´s cup not without reason, I suspect and you´d expect him to put skippy little Stepanek away.
I don´t know what Martina´s doing to make the chirpy Czech such a crowd pleaser and I probably will regret asking so I won´t.
All I will say is that it will be sad to say goodbye tonight.

Djokovic-Nadal
He´s the holder of this trophy the last time it was played in Montreal is Nadal and I have a feeling he´s pretty much had the matching he needs to feel at home here.
The PHM match might have been the toughest test he´d get before a possible final meeting with the Swiss and sometimes you just have to think that Djokovic is fairly solid in his game but still lacks that step up to the top table.

On the ladies side;
I think Sharapova won´t lose ´cos she hates being beaten but she hates especially being beaten by other Russians.

And the Ivanovic-Jankovic might be an X-rated affair which should only be shown after the watershed. Who knows what the winner´s name will be?
