Good spot engineer. This should be close. Very hard to break Andy's serve and an excellent chance of a tb and / or a third set here.
2 from 3 yesterday. Big stakes nap Djoko gave Nalbandian absolutely no chance. Hardcourt is definitely his best surface. I broke the rule of Verdasco at my peril (lay when favourite , back when dog) and assumed having won the first set he’d carry it home. Fat chance.
The Nadal – PHM game was an absolute stormer (for 2 and a half sets anyway). Yet as he nurses a 6th straight loss to Nadal (having gone a set ahead for the third game in a row) Mathieu will have to accept that he blew this game. 95% of the tie he played some incredible tennis. The power he was generating consistently was the match of Nadal’s and his shot placement was running Nadal from side to side. The brutal fact however was the 5% when it mattered was when Mathieu choked. Nadal’s second service game in the second set saw PHM at 15-40. He then blew both initial bps with wild shots that were 5-6 feet out. A further few advantages were squandered subsequently. Mathieu has the skills of a top 10 player but unfortunately the mental strength of a top 50 player. Maybe he will get the Nadal monkey of his back but as of this moment he is well and truly owned.
Caught the first set of Baggy and Roddick. Like Peter said came down to serve’s and Baggy’s was woefully inconsistent. When the serve is firing the Cypriot can beat almost anyone. When its not he can look very ordinary.
Just one for today in the mens
Davydenko-Stepanek
I think Stepanek rode his luck a bit during this event so far. Gonzo should have beaten him and Haas yesterday looked out of sorts if the highlights are anything to go by. Davydenko is one of the best returners in the game and if Stepanek serves like he did yesterday I can see the dodgy Russian putting him to the sword. The H to H is surprisingly 3 apiece but this is a first hardcourt Masters QF for Stepanek who seems to be performing above himself in the US at the moment. I dislike both these players for different reasons (Stepanek for his gamesmanship and Davydenko for his untrustworthiness) and it pains me but I think Davydenko is some value here.

In the ladies just the ones as well
KIrilenko-Ivanovic
Ivanovic back froma long post Wimbeldon lay off much stronger than I expected but she faces a player in an excellent run of form. She has trashed Kirlenko twice on hardcourt in 2005 but the Russian girl must be more confident today of at least making Ivanovic work hard for victory.
