Lots of interesting looking games tonight in Toronto. Will probably be watching these rather than the mens of which only the Moya / Blake games grab my imagination and both of which I have no money on.
Danildou-Zan
Danildou was along with Ljubcic one of my two naps yesterday but she made very heavy weather of beating Camerin in a game that featured 22 breaks of serve and that last nearly 3 hours 10 minutes. She looked down and out as Camerin served for the game at 5*-4 but the Italian crumbled to lose her serve and the next 2 games to lose the final set 5-7. Danildou served 8 dfs and not a single ace during the game although she did get a high percentage of first serves in. Yan pulled of the shock of the round in thrashing Ivanovic who must have suffered the after effects of her exertions last week. I thought long and hard about opposing Danildou tonight as fatigure will definitely be an issue – I’m going to side with her again tonight based mainly on the fact that Zan is pretty poor if her recent stats are anything to go by – since 2006 she is 1-7 against players ranked around Danildou and she is 0-5 on hardcourt. Zan has played a fair bit of tennis as well given that she has come through qualifying. In her 9 starts prior to yesterday as a qualifier she has never gone beyond a second (not to mind third) round and I’m hoping that Dnidlou’s experience will be the key at a nice price.

Schiavone-Golovin
Schiavone did the business against Demetieva yesterday for me at a tasty 3.70 and she looks a bit of value again today against a player whom she has beaten twice in three efforts and who is still suffering from the effects of a hamstring/leg injury if her after match interviews are anything to go by. I watched the last two sets of the Schiavone – Dementieva game and while the Italian was aided by Dementieva’s heavily strapped leg that hampered the Russian’s mobility she still played some very nice groundstrokes and with confidence high I think she can make this a very tight contest.

Schynder-Petrova
Very rarely (if ever) would I put the oddball leftie Patty Schynder down as value of the day but I’m going to have to do it today. She beat Petrova in straight sets en route to the final in San Diego recently and while the h to h is only 6-4 to Schynder it is 5-1 on outdoor courts (including 4-0 on hardcourt). While Schynder hasn’t won any tittles this year results wise she looks on course to beat her previous career best year of 2005 if she maintains her current form. Petrova is in good form too but her old failings that marred her pre her 2006 breakthrough year were all on show yesterday as she bumbled through beating Canadian wildcard Dubois in 3 sets. Lots of angry shakes of the heads, swatting of flies and some very messy tennis at times. Schynder is consistent and the h to h here makes me think that 1.94 is a cracking price even if I have missed the best price which was odds against.

Razzano-Peer
Razzano after a lay off post Wimbeldon finding some decent form of late faces a player whom she beat in 3 sets in a minor shock last week in Los Angeles. Both ladies have a lot of tennis recently (especially Peer who has played doubles almost constantly for the last month) so fatigue will be an interest. At the prices and with recent victories over Peer, Mirza and a possibly weary opponent I can side with Razzano here.

Jankovic-Bammer
Jankovic seemingly recovered from her cold thrashed Pelliter last night and she should have far too much game for Austrian mummy Bammer today. She beat her in straight sets recently 1 & 2 and even before her recent elevation into the top 10 had beaten her twice on hardcourt. Based on the win price of 1.17 on
Betfair the 1.53 available on a straight sets win is massive. A fairer price would be around 1.35 – 1.38.
