Just seen Sporting Odds have got prices on a challenger event in Wroclaw (Poland), and there's one there that looks reasonable to me. Sergey Stakhovsky came through qualifying without dropping a set, beating Mach, Vacek and Sluiter. He's yet to drop a set in the main draw either, beating Karanusic in the first round, and then Janowicz (who'd knocked out Mahut in the first round). He's up against Simone Bolelli now, 5th seed here and he's beaten Kunitsyn and Montcourt so far. Doesn't have a bad hard court record, but seems to be more of a clay court player, and I fancy Stakhovsky's chances here given his momentum and his decent results so far.

Stakhovsky to beat Bolelli @ 2.875 2pts

Think the game is due to start in 10 minutes, by the way.

My mistake, it was Stepanek v Melzer which started then, the Stakhovsky game is on after they've finished.

Good spot. Didn’t realise anyone was covering this. Bolleli beat him easily enough in Slovenia towards the tail end of last year indoors and he is useful enough at this level. I’m drawing a blank on Bolleli. Think he has a decent serve but not much else. Amazed he is actually ranked 68. Rose without trace I guess

GL the Ukrainian looks in decent form alright.

Hello guys,

I'm from Czech Republic.

I'm little bit late, but agree with tip on Acasuso against Cuevas. Acasuso playing in similar form is really hard to defeat on clay even for top claycourters. He is very strong on serve, strong from base line. He can't be compared to shaky Verdasco. Unfortunatelly, as we have to search value in odds, I can't see it in it this time, so no bet.

Unlucky there RC. Can't have been much in that

Another terrible day for me. Acasuso manages not to create a single bp chance en route to being broken 4 times . Ends my ante post interest as well. Shaping up for a Racing Post predicted final of Monaco and Gonzo.

1 final bet for what has been a poor week. 1 from the Fed Cup tomorrow:

Peer-Safina

This is playing indoors in Israel. The last two have been very close between these two with Peer edging a three setter in the Gold Coast recently to reverse the same result in 2007. Safina is having major serving yips (33 in her last 3 games) and exited very tamely in Oz. Peer not playing with last year’s fluency but with the homne crowd behind her and against a player who is very much a confidence player you’d have to fancy her to have the edge here.Safina’s selection is a major surprise here and her sole Fed Cup outing prior to this ended in a tame straight sets defeat on clay way back in 2005.

1.50 Units Peer @ 5/6 (Blue Square)

Re: Tennis Week 28th Jan - 3rd February (Vina Del Mar)

That’s it from me for this week. Should have stayed in bed. The Acasuso result was very disappointing given he broke straight off and looked well in control in the early exchanges. Redeemed slightly by a good win for Peer at a tasty price.

Lots of work done on the next three events and waiting for the draws this evening.

Usual horrible choke by Safina when a break up final set (and having won the first set to love). Collapse of serve and double faults in the double figures meant she lost 6 on the bouce in the last set. She’s a bigger basket case than her brother. Looked like a very ugly game with few winners and masses of errors. 13 service breaks in 20 games says it all.

Very unlucky Engineer. Monaco makes the final and then retires before a ball is struck . Bizarre

He got injured in the doubles, apparently, and looks set to miss the Davis Cup tie against Great Britain next week.

Gonzalez Captures Vina Title by Walkover

Top seed and local favorite Fernando Gonzalez captured his third Movistar Open title Saturday night as he rallied to defeat unseeded Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas 6-7(4), 7-6(6), 6-2 in the semifinals in two hours and 47 minutes.
Afterwards, the 27-year-old Chilean was declared champion after No. 3 seed Juan Monaco (pictured) suffered a second degree left ankle sprain in the second set of the doubles final earlier on Saturday. The injury prevented Monaco from playing in Sunday's final. Earlier in the day, Monaco advanced to the singles championship with a straight-sets win over Santiago Ventura.
Instead of the singles final on Sunday night the tournament will hold an exhibition between Ventura and Gonzalez.
"I'm happy to have won this tournament once again but a little sad for Juan (Monaco) who wasn't able to play the final. He is a great player and even better person," said Gonzalez. "It's tough for him not be able to play tomorrow's final and probably miss Davis Cup next week. We are good friends and I hope he recovers fast from this injury."
"This is a very special tournament for me. There is only one tournament in Chile every year and each time I look forward to play in front of my home crowd. They supported me incredibly in every match and today it was no different. It was a very tough match. He started serving really well and I wasn't feeling the ball very good in the beginning. I was lucky to save two match points in the second set to win the match. Pablo Cuevas is a great player, especially on clay. He has been climbing fast in the rankings."
It is the first time a singles final walkover has occurred on the ATP circuit since 2003 Basel when David Nalbandian withdrew due to a left wrist injury against countryman Guillermo Coria.

"It’s very unfortunate that this happened to me in such a good moment of my career," said Monaco. "I’m sad that I won’t be able to play the final here in Vina del Mar and the Davis Cup tie against Great Britain next week. I’m hoping to make a come back at Buenos Aires.
“It was great to play in Vina del Mar. The organizers did a great job all week long. I was extremely well treated here. I hope to be back next year."
In Saturday's win over Cuevas, Gonzalez overcame an 18-minute power outage at 5-6 in the second set and saved two match points at 15-40 in the 12th game before coming back to win the tie-break and the final set. Gonzalez also trailed 3-5 in the tie-break.
In the third set, Gonzalez broke in the second game and saved a break point in the seventh game to go up 5-2 before breaking Cuevas in the last game.
Gonzalez also won the Vina del Mar title in 2002 and 2004 and was runner-up in 2005. It is the Chilean's ninth career ATP title.
Monaco advanced to his first ATP final of the season Saturday as he defeated Spaniard Santiago Ventura 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 15 minutes in the Movistar Open in Vina del Mar.
The 23-year-old Argentine took early control of the match with a break in the sixth game to go up 4-2 and he added another break two games later to close out the first set in 29 minutes. In the second set, both players held serve until the eighth game when Monaco broke for a 5-3 lead. He then served for the match but was broken at 15-40. Monaco then broke again to advance to his fifth career ATP final (3-1).
Last season Monaco won a career-high three ATP titles on clay (Buenos Aires, Poertschach, Kitzbuhel) and compiled a personal-best 28-8 mark on clay (second-most wins behind Nadal's 31). He also advanced to the 4th RD at Roland Garros (l. to Canas) and the US Open (l. to Djokovic), his best Grand Slam results.

Re: Tennis Week 28th Jan - 3rd February (Vina Del Mar)

Wasn't lucky with that one, really, but with with price of 3/1 it definitely isn't a reason for some regret. The big winner was Gonzalez - not in his best shape, but made it somehow.
The best thing for me is that Movistar Open is over
