Re: Wimbledon 2006

I can't help but feel the Hendrick-Nadal match mirrors many aspects of life - it pretty much sums up why some people achieve more than others in life.

When you don't believe in yourself, then quite rightly, you wouldn't achieve too much - sadly, I don't think Nadal won this as much as Kendrick lost this...

Re: Wimbledon 2006

My only tip here in R1, Mayer cruised through in 3.

For R2, Andy Murray is looking pretty big @ 1.26 (even though I hate backing against French players). Anyway, Murray is a class act on this surface, showed it last year when only a lack of stamina stopped him beating Nalbandian, and clearly in form in R1.

Benneteau on grass this year L v ranked 78, W v 541, L v 96.
Last year his only win was over a player ranked 283 (losing to 69, 112 and 26). Had a slightly better year before that, beating a very inexperienced Berdych and taking Ancic to 5 (though they were only ranked 65 and 63) and he lost to Dupuis (83).

Big bet, easy winner.

Forgot he was playing Dave tbh and after reading your post i decided to have a wee punt on 3-0 so lets hope he hangs on in the 3rd.

Thanks

Re: Wimbledon 2006

Oh for an internet connection that can access Betfair at work. Lopez almost came in yesterday (blew a break in the final set) and Santoro should have beaten Berdych at odds of nearly 4s. Not getting many of the 50 : 50s at all. Will definitely be looking to oppose Nadal against the double A at the right price tomorrow. Robredo and Glanville were as abject surrenders as it is possible to get at this level. Gonzalez made an amazing comeback from 2 sets down to beat Safin in 5. Gimelstob pushed Ljubcic closer than the score would suggest. Would really fancy Agassi's chances against a misfiring Nadal as well

Robredo 1 Unit @ 2.16 -1 Unit
Lay Berdych @ 1.34 -0.50 Units
Agassi 2 Units @ 1.46 +0.87 Units
2.5 Units Bjorkman @ 1.41 +0.98 Units
Hantchova 1.25 Unit @ 2.02 +1.21 Units
Lay Pennetta @ 1.52 -1.25 Units
Lay Safin @ 1.77 +1.54
Lay Ljubcic @ 1.23 -0.75 Units
Ljubcic to win 3-1 0.5 Units -0.5 Units

Staked / Loss : 26.75 -1.12

Re: Wimbledon 2006

The dogs haven’t quite barked for me yet so probably not the wisest strategy to be backing another 3 tomorrow but that’s exactly what I’m going to do

ATP

Mirnyi vs Blake

Blake hasn’t become a world beater on grass overnight as dropped sets to the likes of Wang and Pless already have shown. Mirnyi is very solid on grass and the big serve picks up lots of cheap points. An interesting stat I noted was that from 2003 to 2005 he had won all 10 of the tiebreaks he was involved in on grass. He has lost all 4 this year mind but even if Blake is a worthy favourite his price looks too short.

Lay Blake @ 1.46 (0.75 Units Risked)

Ferrero – Stepanek

I love betting Stepanek usually as you know exactly what you will get. He's made quite a bit for me this year. Solid , unshowy, big serves. Ferrero I opposed last round as he was too short and he of course won. I was all set to oppose him this round until I saw the price and I think he’s now too long. He’s beaten Stepanek twice in three meetings and has a solid Wimbeldon record. Its not Stepankes’ favourite surface and theres a bit of value.

Lay Stepanek @ 1.56

Youznhy vs Djokovic

3 4th round appearances in the last 5 Wimbeldons show how solid Youznhy is on the surface. Djokovic beat Robredo easily but that was as much the Spaniard jacking the game in as anything else. I’d make this a lot lot closer.

Lay Djokovic @ 1.65

WTA

Sprem vs Vaidisova

After her heroics (and great outfits ) of 2004 Sprem has gone backwards in a major way and Vaidisova is one of a number of players who has moved into the top 20 in the same period. Vaidiosva is on a very good run right now and goes off at a prohibitive 1.18 tomorrow. This looks very short given that Sprem is showing signs of recovery and she ran Vaidisova close when they met in 2005. Small stakes lay of Vaidisova and a 2-1 result for the Czech.

Lay Vaidisova @ 1.18 (0.25 Units Risked)
0.25 Units Vaidisova 2-1 @ 4.7

Tanasanguran vs Radawanska

One more from the WTA and an interesting match up between last years junior Wimbelcon Winner (and current junior French Open champion) Radawanska and former 4th round perennial Tanasanguran. The latter has made the 4th round 6 times but an injury in 2004 seems to have halted her career recently. She breezed through qualifying and has only dropped a set in a single game. She's worth chanceing here.

La Radawanska @1.78 (1 Unit Risked)

Re: Wimbledon 2006

Advice here tennis nuts

I see some people betting on Bjorkman here? As far as I was aware hes a total journeyman who likes his doubles but really has been well below par on the singles for quite some time. Whats changed? Im sure that used to be the case.

Anyway I see he gave a few of you a scare today. Hes playing Brachialli and I remember watching him against Roddick one time and he really gave him a good scare. Hes 5/6 hereat Corals, what dyou reckon

Dunno about Bjorkman - I kinda thought he was past it too. What's the beef CJ?

Re: Wimbledon 2006

I was just on here to ask about that Tanasugarn one myself, CJ. Didn't realise Radwanska was the junior Wimbledon champion though. Radawanska's not dropped a set in the first 2 rounds, but they've both been close run games against the world no. 101 and 83 (Radwanska is currently ranked 217). Tanasugarn meanwhile (ranked 164, although she has been as high as 19 in the world) had to come through qualifying, where she dropped just 9 games in 3 matches. Then in the main stage of the tournament she's beaten the world no.36 (although admittedly she's never made it past the first round at Wimbledon), and then beating the no. 112, Asagoe, in straight sets in the 2nd round. Tanasugarn has got a decent record at Wimbledon, 21-9 (not including qualifiers), and as CJ says, has made the 4th round on 6 occasions. She seems to be in good form here after coming through the qualifiers, and I'm not sure she should be the outsider here, so I'll join you on this one, CJ.

Re: Wimbledon 2006

Bjorkman’s on a very good grass run right now. Made final in Nottingham and he has some decent results in grass. Like Muze says doubles is his thing (he’s seeded 2 here with Max Mirnyi) , hes 34 and he’s probably pleased to have made it this far. I actually tipped Braccali as an outsider to make the last 8 in my preview so to be some way consistent I think Bjorkman’s singles interest will end today but on the price I’m leaveing it alone. GL
