Re: Wimbledon 2006

Another day of frustration. The nap of the day Sugiyma blew her game in a big way against a woman ranked 129 in the world who'd never gone beyond a second round in a slam in 14 previous efforts . Blew two set points in the first and having lost that then managed to blow a break in the second and lose 6 of the next 7 games. Stepanek as reliable as ever and Bjorkman makes it 10-1 against his hapless doubles partner Mirnyi. Ante post shouts Hewitt and Ancic stumble unconvincingly into the last 8. They’ve actually drifted as Federer shoots into 1.28

Lay Mirnyi @ 1.87 +1.09 Units
Stepanek 2 Units @ 1.68 +1.29
Sugiyama 2.5 Units @ 1.41 -2.5 Units
Lay Mauresmo @ 1.27 -0.5 Units
Mauresmo 2-1 @ 4.2 -0.25 Units

TO DATE : Staked 43.5 Loss -4.6

For tomorrow I'm hoping a Demetieva whose serve seems to have improved a bit can make things tricky for countrywoman Sharapova who was out of sorts against Pennetta today. She leads 5-2 in H to H but Dementieva has nicked a set on two of those losing occasions and she is always competitive against her countrywomen.

Lay Sharapova @ 1.28 (0.5 Units Risked)
Sharapova 2-1 @ 4.4 (0.5 Units)

I thought about betting Mauresmo to beat Myskina. She holds a whopping 8-1 in the H to H but Myskina seems to have hot form as good performances here and in Eastbourne show. Mauresmo should win but the 1.36 looks skinny.

Henin Hardenne should easily put Bremond to the sword and Li while she might make it akward is unlikely to get anything from Clisters.

Re: Wimbledon 2006

One for Wednesday as the price might not last:

Stepanek-Bjorkman

Great performances by both men to get as far as they have and a match both will fancy their chances in. In Bjorkman's favor he has a 3-1 H to H over Stepanek and is a better grass player. As against that he has played a slug fest against Mirnyi, will be playing doubles tomorrow and again Wednesday (if as expected Mirnyi and him beat their 3rd roudn opponets) and I have serious doubts he has the legs for a game against a guy who is seven years younger, who will chase everything and who is more than willing to chase a game if he goes a set or two down. Mrs Hingis's current flame for me. I'd make him around 1.55 for this in the circumstances.

Stepanek 1.5 Units @ 1.63

it was actually 3 set points in the 1st set. she was 5-4 up, 40-0 up, ON SERVE!

typically, she was the one i bet biggest on!

well done on the others though (altho i wasn't on them)

Hingis is dating Stepanek - apparently he's known as "Duckface" on the ATP tour . He's the Bellamy of the tennis world - winds people up with lots of gamesmanship, slowplay etc. Should probably be kinder to him. I've bet on him 7 times this year and he's won all seven !!

Re: Wimbledon 2006

Took another unit on Stepanek @ 1.58. Bjorkman had a 4 setter in doubles this afternoon and faces another doubles game tomorrow an event in which he'll have a chance to get a Slam more than singles and where he will be probably concentrateing his efforts.

Ancic makes no appeal against Federer. Hard to see him getting even a set such is Fed's dominance. The extent of the gap best revealed by the fact that I was delightd to have an ante post shout at 30. He's not 45s on Betfair .

Hewitt should beat Baggy but makes no appeal at 1.44.

Nieminen might just nick a set from Nadal. He's compettive and solid and has a reasoanble record against top 10 players recently (nicked a set of Nadal in Bareclona on clay)

Lay Nadal 3-0 @ 2.72 (1.50 Units Risked)

Re: Wimbledon 2006

Well thats Wimbeldon over for me (thanks be to fcuk)

With Stepanek losing brings a poor tournament to an end for me. He had loads of chances (15 break points to Bjorkman's 6) but couldn't convert when it mattered. Federer will be laughing at having to face a Bjorkman drained from 2 consecutive 5 setters, and a 2 doubles

With Dementieva going down in flames the end results is

stkaed 47 : loss -8.1

which nearly wipes put the 10 units I made in the French open

Re: Wimbledon 2006

That really is such a mismatch in the semis there isnt it.

Baghdatis beat Hewitt there, him vs Nadal would make a cool semi final match

Re: Wimbledon 2006

For anyone still interested in trying to make money on Wimbledon --- Henin- Hardenne is worth considering at the 2/5 available against Clijsters.
The other womens match is a very difficult call .

Value for me is with Mauresmo. She’s long odds against and is 3 -0 on the H to H (all with last year). Both have very similar Slam SF records (Mauresmo W2, L4), Sharapova (W1, L4). Sharapova’s probably mentally stronger but Mauresmo is worth an interest.

Re JHH I think this could be close as well. Both grass games they’ve played have gone to 3 sets. I’ve laid JHH and backed her to win 2-1 also.

Small stakes all round today

Re: Wimbledon 2006

Sharapova hasn't impressed me so far - well her tennis hasn't anyway - and Mauresmo has certainly improved in the big matches over the last few years. I'll take the 2.50 on Mauresmo for small stakes as I'd have this match closer than the odds suggest too.
