If Roddick is to stand a good chance here he knows hes gota come out all guns blazing and he will. Of the 12 matches Federer has beaten Roddick in, Roddick took the 1st set on 3 occasions, if that means anything (if it does it means good things cos thats a 3/1 ratio).

The price for Roddick to win the 1st set is 11/4 btw.
Solid logic Muze, and as I say Fed really should have dropped a set to Robredo. If he comes out anything like the same way you'd expect Roddick to come out and grab the initiative, before Fed shifts up a gear and runs out a fairly comfortable winner.

Re: Australian Open 2007

I know it's a little ealry in the day and late before the game but is there anyone about that can put me off Roddick to serve more aces? (1.73 general, 1.92 Betfair & Evens @ Skybet (think they have the odds backwards))

Not the most knowledgeable of tennis folk but i'd have thought this was a very decent shout. He's second in the Tournie for Aces and Fed isn't in the top 20. From what i understand Fed isn't playing his best tennis (though comfortably enough to see off most) and if Roddick is going to replicate his win from the other week i'd have thought Aces would play a massive part.

Re: Australian Open 2007

2.04 on Betfair now Quandram. Federer does get his racket on an awful lot which his why he's so close in the odds here, but Roddick at evens+ does look a decent price.

Re: Australian Open 2007

Fed wins first set; and 6-2 up on aces.

But agreed with 9/2 sold logic Muze; fat lot of good that does you now.

Re: Australian Open 2007

Sorry, that sounds a bit after-eventing.

I meant it was a good spot mate at the price and would have been on myself had I checked in here earlier.

Re: Australian Open 2007

Federer was just awesome. The first 7 games or so aside while it was quite even, he couldn't seem to miss a thing. Roddick played ok but was blown away - I didn't see the match uninterrupted as I was at work but whenever I looked back Roddick had Fed pinned back in the corner, waiting at the net to close off the point, before Fed would send a heatseeker of a crosscourt forehand or backhand to snatch the point, and Andy looked a broken man every time he did.

1.1 now for Fed for the championship - that'll rise a smidgen if it Gonzalez he's up against...maybe 1.13 or so, and dare I say even that might be a trifle big in his current form. Whatever, it should be another one to enjoy.

Maria Sharapova - Serena Williams

Well, I am not tennis expert and when I put money on some tennis match that's low stake, just to watch it and to be more fun. Regards this match, I don't understand why odds on Serena are about 3. I have watched few times Serena on Australian Open and she is playing quite good tennis. Maybe she can be better than Maria tonight. My money will be on Serena this time, but just low stake.

Serena Williams to win 3/10

Re: Australian Open 2007

Nice punt nid - she pissed it!

Anyone with any clues for the mens final? I'm gonna be up early to watch what could be a good one, or another Fed masterclass. Either will be good to watch.

Re: Australian Open 2007

Well the H2H doesn't look good for Gonzo...its 9-0 Fed and 22-2 in sets. Gonzalez has only broken Fed 6 times in those 9 matches...and he'll prob need that many breaks in the one match tomorrow if he is to win.

However he's certainly playing better than ever, but he's only done it for 3 matches...he looked fairly ordinary against Hewitt I thought. Federer has been playing in top gear for most of the last 2 years.

Statistics
Federer Gonzalez
Aces 48 (2.7 per set) 85 (leads tourn., 3.9 per set
Double Faults 7 9
1st Serve Pct. 61% 65%
1st Serve Pts. Won 76% 78%
2nd Serve Pts. Won 60% 58%
Service Games Won 85% 92% (leads tourn.)
Return Games Won Won 46% (leads tourn.) 30%
Break Pts. Won 38 of 66 (58%) 32 of 67 (48%)
Winners/Unforced Err. 245 / 150 307 / 130
Court Time 10:59 14:13

You'll get nearly 3.00 on Gonzalez to have the most aces - like for Roddick it looks an ok punt, although Federer gives away very few with his lightning reactions and quick movement, so he's still a worthy fave there.

Mmmm i dunno...think I'll just sit back and enjoy.
