Tournement Over Cash Play

I like playing cash games. I like playing cash as it's 'retro' and traditional to me. I like the idea of people sitting down with csh and playing it every hand. No fair deal in that you all have the same. i like to see folks with big bank rolls coming and trying to use it at tables etc.

Then i like tournaments. Nothing better than the buzz all through it. to start with your trying to get an early position and avoiding all the flak thats going on around you. get to first break and regroup and then look at making yourself 'handy' for top table by the time the second reak comes about.

Anyhow what im interested in is is what have you got leanings for? I bet you there's poker players on here that only play tournaments and also cash players that only play cash. also i was interested in folks like Jezza who are fine cash players. Do you still enter big tournaments etc Jezza and if so what sort of tournaments are you interested in?

thanks

Yeah Komp.

Cash is where its at. All the big TV star types are basically the big tournament winners. However the best players in the world are the guys beating the biggest cash games, not the tournament players. Cash is like the fine wine of poker compared to the buckfast of a 3 dollar turbo freezeout tourney. Theres so much more real poker and card playing in a cash game compared to a tournament. You have to be able to make good post flop decisions (there are almost none of any consequence in a tournament once it gets fairly deep into it). Thin value bets, being able to read your opponents hand, and being able to fold good hands when you think you are beat are all critical to cash game success. This is overall a lot more skillfull than tournaments where its just raise, reraise preflop and who can win the most coinflips etc etc. I do still play the occasionall tourney tho komp when im bored. I dont enter any big ones with any regularity tho. Both me and muse have played a 5k tourney in our time but neither of us cashed . Ive played a few 500 and 200 ones online and actually had a pretty good record. The 500s were satellites of which i won 2 out of the 3 I entered (when i say won I mean won a seat). The 200s I am a little down on I think. If I do decide to play a tourney on a whim komp I will just open a site and pick the first one available that takes my fancy. Could be as small as 3 dollars could be as much as 200 Ill just take whatevers available and try my best. I have not won an MTT with over a 500 field for over a year online tho.

Tournament is becoming unbearable to me now. I gotta get out. I gotta escape. Someone's gonna get hurt I tells ye and it's gonna be me. Fuck it. I'm away to go cash crazy. Bye.

Changed my mind. Trebled my money in less than an hour. Quad aces and a fullhouse not long before that helped mind.

Didn't we have this thread 3 weeks ago?

Anyway, play what you fancy whenever you fancy, and enjoy it. If it's not fun then what's the point? Unless of course it's your job, that might not always be a barrel of laughs. Bet you guys who play for a living just hate the Monday morning session. Right old struggle for me to muster enough motivation every Monday when I need to go back to my work. Still, hired killer probably Isn't the worst thing to get back to of a Monday.

Re: Tournement Over Cash Play

I'm pretty poor at cash games, the people I play against don't appreciate my moves and are happy to call my reraises with middle pair shit kicker, ok they win, but my bluff is first class and is wasted on them.

I prefer tournaments, there's nothing better than getting a nice lump sum for a final table spot. If you win, it's just amazing, but I appreciate I need to be able to play cash games, I think there's more money to be made there if you (I) can control oneself.

I much prefer the tournaments also Graham, but when I take the notion I will have a dabble in some cash tables.

You don't need to be able to play cash games, if you don't enjoy it or it isn't working out then don't do it, sounds simple.

Your cash play sounds very like my own, I also love to be making moves and trying to play the folk rather than the cards quite often, sometimes the timing is off and it doesn't work out, or you've read the situation wrong, but, all the while learning.

A lot of the guys in here opt for the ABC poker route and fair play to them as they seem to make a lot of money with their strategy. I openly admit I do not have the patience for that but hey, each to their own. End of the day in my opinion, if you are just a recreational player like me then it's all about having fun, and most importantly not gambling money you can't afford to lose.

Good luck and keep us posted Graham.
