Re: How to lose in a live tournement

Thanks for the example MrMuze.

I'll search out this mystery place that has further information on implied odds Doc (and further more complicated examples I hope). I don't see what's wrong with that as I need the bloody info from somewhere.

Duno what limits you play Doc but believe me internet low limit cash games this happens dead regular like. I lead into em, they re-raise me big so i put em all in in reply and then they call cos theres a lot in the pot. Alternatively lead into em, they raise you, you flat call then you check raise em all in on the turn.

I rarely play cash games of NL these days Mr.M, normally tournies, although after the run I've had in the last month I might change that

Yeah Doc tournies are VERY volatile, the regular cashola is in the cash games.

Having said that, as Alien would say if you win a tourny the prizemoneys BEEFCAKE

I normally play STT, which in the past have been very good to me volatility wise, but recently have been getting hammered on people drawing out on me.

Re: How to lose in a live tournement

Gett1n

Bit of a bummer to play this well and build a nice stack of chips only to throw it all away.

With the AJs hand in question. I dont mind the flat call of the loose players raise. Everyone else has folded apart from the blinds so the chance of someone waking up with a big hand behind you is small - AJ is usually a bad hand to call a reraise with but your read on the player in question is he is playing pretty LAG so your hand could well be good so again this is OK. There IS a case for reraising him but I dont think thats necessarily the best play here (although it would not be a bad one thats for sure). This is because you have position over him on the flop and beyond, and you are probably still unsure if your hand is good or not. Flat calling gives you a chance to get more information and put less of your chips at risk without this info - postion here is the key, if you had been in the BB and out of position against him after the flop a reraise might well have been the better play. However when the blind reraises you have to ditch it. This is not a "move". Remember the blind was apparently a good player - he realises the original raiser might not have a great hand but he has to be worried about you as you have been playing very TAG. He knows you have a good hand, yet he is still happy to reraise both of you - this must be a premium hand and you still have enough chips to comfortably fold and keep playing. Personally I would have played it the same as you, except I would have folded to the blinds reraise. Live and learn I guess.

What was the standard of play like in general gett1n, I guess a mixture of good and bad?

Jez

P.S. WP with the nut straight, I bet he never put you on that

I was being slightly tongue in cheek Keema
I don't actually know (or at least understand) why they were removed to be honest.

However, as I've said - no big deal. We move on, and I'm not going to fall out with anyone over the issue

Re: How to lose in a live tournement

Jez

I can see the argument for the flat call with AJs, seeing as you have position. However my thinking is that if I were the initial raiser and I get flat-called I'm thinking drawing hand (or maybe small/middle pair). If I miss the flop, but I think it may have missed my caller I'll bet into it hoping to scare him away.
If I get re-raised, I'm now worried about someone with position on me and am going to be very cautious.
Switching back to G's seat - I have now created a good semi-bluff opportunity if the guy checks to me on the flop with something like an underpair, second pair or a strong draw. I could well scare out a hand like AK or AQ here, or something like TT if a King or hit the flop.

It's a matter of taste I guess - I'd probably marginally favour the raise, but the call wouldn't be too far behind. I'd probably fold though as my top pref.

The key thing here is that no matter what, the BB is getting all his money in the pot here and there is nothing you can do about that. You can't fold good hands in late position just because the blinds may have a monster! The key decision for me is the first one - do I call, fold or re-raise the first raiser. After that it is implied odds, knowing he probably has a monster.

How is this implied odds Doc? Have I misunderstood, if you know how much is going to be in the pot for sure like here, thats not implied odds.

Re: How to lose in a live tournement

Well I think gett1n said he had a few chips left, hardly in the realms of implied odds though is it. You know hes going to call for a few more chips so you know whats going to be in the pot.
