Re: MTTs

Just exited the UK Student Champs - Was my first proper live tournament and good banter it was too

6 1/2 hours in and the field was down to around 100, blinds at 800/1600 and I was sitting there with around 18k.

Had AK, with someone raising the pot to 3x the Big Blind - he'd raised quite a few and I pushed all in over the top looking to take the fair amount of chips sitting on the table.

He called with QJ and hit a jack on the turn and that was that.

Raisin still going with 40k - top 30 are paid I think with 1st place over a grand plus a WSOP seat.

Mod had a fairly bad beat as far as I heard too.

Re: MTTs

He's been up and down like a yo yo but on a roll at the moment. About an hour ago he walked past my table on his way to another with just one chip and then returned about 20 mins later with a ruddy great stack of them :drums

Re: MTTs

And a word for Pistol who wasn't allowed(although he slept in anyway) to play since he is banned from where it was being held (the student union)

Well played Beanie, thats an absolute numpty call from the QJ there and id be pretty pissed about that if I were you

He literally has to put you on a low/med pocket pair there to call and even then its a big call. He must have been a very poor player thats all I can say.

Re: MTTs

I went out in 42nd place. Ten badly played minutes ruined 8 hours good work.

My last hand I called a small raise preflop with TJ. Flopped a stright draw. The guy bet into me. I guessed he was semi bluffing at it since he'd been stealing a lot. I pushed all in to try to take the huge pot. He thought far a loong while then called.

He had top pair and A kicker. I had 14 outs and didn't hit them. That was it!

I'm really annoyed as I had about an average stack before that and could probably have cruised into the last 30to take doan a min prize of £100.

Anyway, I got to meet Mod too. I decided to take the piss out of his hair before I told him who I was. It was great. He got really annoyed then me and Beanie told him we were from TDP and he was ok.

Nice guy too.

Yeah Mex. I was the guy with the suit jacket on and the white baseball cap. Was sitting opposite you on table 10 for a few hours if I remember correctly.

Re: MTTs

Yeah, here's my story.

I was floating along nicely and just before the second break I haad 17k-18k, but I'd not really hand any biggies yet. No pps higher than TT and no AK, just a coupld of AQs and mid pps that I'd raised with and been re-reaised, so I was expecting my big hand to come, where I'd double up and start moving up in chips.

This loose-ish guy raised my 800 BB to 2800 total and everyone folded. I decided to have look with my KQo, thinking I could quite easily outplay him if low cards came.

Flop: A J T (2 clubs)

Ah, here's my biggie, finally! Now to get paid. I bet 1800, he wont give me credit for anything here, I figure him to have a weak ace, not sure why, but I expect him to either raise me for info, thinking I'm at it or to attempt to check/call me down, which I won't allow him to. He thought for a while and raised, making it 4k to go. I'd seen him playing a couple of tawdry flush hands (one or two hands before he'd busted someone with nought but 9d3d and I starting talking trash about how "you've probably got a flush draw on past form" and was totally bigging up how I was scared of the flush coming. I "thought" for ages before raising all in, had about 12k left after calling off the 4k. He called eventually, asking if I'd got the ace. I showed him my straight and he showed me his KJ for 2nd pair. Erm...

Turn: A

Hmm.

River J. BOOM!

Oh and Raisin and Beanie seem like thoroughly decent chaps , though I didn't get chance to have a drink with them.

Re: MTTs

Well played mod - you pwned that guy that hand and just got UL - quite a sick beat there to be honest...

One thing tho, leave out the stalling when you raise back all in. Of course that dope you got there does not realise this, but stalling for a long time to "think"...looking back at your cards and then finally deciding to re raise all in is 99% of the time the stone cold nuts, mike caro first alerted me to this and I have to say from several years live poker, it is pretty much true.

Aye, we were thinking about heading along to the union today to watch/play in the Freezeout tourney and could have had a proper drink then(Neil's shout if he made the money ), but I chose the football instead and raisin is spending time with the missus.

We'll probably be involved pretty heavily with the St Andrews Poker Society events from now on tho, and maybe even fit in a poker night out or two to Dundee Casino's before this uni year is up, so no doubt we'll cross paths again
