WC TOP GOALSCORER

Watched the Italy/ Holland game last night. Was very impressed with the Italian centre forward Toni. He scored one and the strength he showed in scoring it was frightneing. Reminded me of when Lomu ran all over the English in the rugby!

He has scored 11 goals in 13 matches for club this season and should be first choice for the boys in Blue at the world cup. Currently on offer at 33/1 with Blue Square is definetly worth a punt.

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

It is probably best for the groups to be announced although the odds will drop a bit i would imagine.

Still unsure asto why for example Rooney is 33/1. His scoring seems to step up at International level and he showed in the last championships how capable he was scoringin every game before he got injured where he definatelywould have been a contender.

Owen 20/1 again is far too big too.

Always nice to find astriker who takes penalties so Torres of Spain could be one to watch.

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

Angelo Gilardino is a better bet imo at 33-1...he seems to score bagfulls.

Owen and Rooneys prices are sure to drop...they are great odds, i will have to get in while i have the chance.

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

Yeah thah would probably be a good bet. He is 25-1 on Coral.

He also seems to be a legend at international level scoring and performing in every game unlike at club football where he is inconsistent.

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

Baros is available at 50/1 with sky bet.

Trezequet is a decent shout 32/1. I say this as Henry is 18/1 yet they have both got the same amount of goals for France so i don't feel there should be this much a difference with him.

Both are chasing the French scoring record and both are only 10 short and after friendlies etc this could be a great chanceat the WC to write themselves into the historybooks for the French national side.

Quite fancy France to put in a decent showing as they have certainly improved with the return of Makele, Zidane, Thuram etc and on their day can match any side you would think but their defence is very dodgy and needs to be toughened upfor sure if they are to compete here.

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

I think France are past their best now and dont have a chance of winning the world cup...if u watched the France - Germany game last night it was plain to see.

Germany did look good tho and could be hard to stop if they start well and being the home nation will help. Everyone always writes Germany off but they are always there or there abouts come the end. They made the final last time which no-one expected.

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

Baros never plays club football thats why hes inconsistent hes missed 6 weeks for us, but he played 2 back to back games for Czechoslavakia in the middle of that run, being injured before he went & injured when he came back....& who'd he rush back for ?? Liverpool how the fcuks that work ??

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

I wouldn't look too much into the France game last night.

Missing Zidane etc which makes a massive difference as has already been seen as in the qualifying without him and the others they really struggled but the games they had them back you could notice the difference.

They won't win it i wouldn't imagine but will go far.

That was also Germanys first decent performance for some time and they have come under a lot of criticism prior to this game so i wouldn't look into this game too much to be honest.

Anyone know the date of the draw for the finals?

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

Kiko,

The main draw is the 9th December. It would of course be best to wait for the draws but then you got to be quick for the value. I've done Toni and just had a nibble on Kaka who is 80/1 with Blue Square yet as low as 25/1 with Skybet.

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

I was on ROONEY at 66/1 e/w for the Euros which returned a profit (would he have gone on to be top scorer w/o injury - I think so).

Rooney at 33/1 is the call again for me altho ill wait til they get a betfair market up

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

I wouldn't back any Italian striker ... the Italian national side is totally paralysed by fear in any games that matter and will be playing for a series of 1-0's and 0-0's in Germany.

Take a side that will score 10+ goals to find your top scorer (with 5-6 goals) and so you'll need a team that will go deep into the competition.

Brazil, Germany (as hosts), Argentina, Holland, England are all likely top seeds and quarter-finalists if they do not screw up their group games.

France and Italy look like dodgy "top seeds" ripe for a group upset and therefore meeting one of those top 5 in 2nd round (and losing).

So .. the battle for the other 3 Q/F spots might come down to ... Czech Rep, Serbia, Croatia, Sweden, and perhaps Paraguay.

----

But most of the leading scorers get their goals early in the group stages (Ronaldo was an exception last time, and Paolo Rossi in 1982 as well) ...

So really if you're looking for a dark horse player thne wait for the draw ... see which team has been lucky enough to get into a group with Trinadad & Tobago and/or an asian minnow ... as well as drawing FRance / Italy as top seed.

Then get on their best striker who is most likely to start.

Sounds easy dunnit ?

Re: World Cup Top Goalscorer

Ronaldo.

Why, well he doesn't seem to play for four years being out injured every other week at Real and Inter and suddenly bang come late April, early May world cup year he's 100% fit and fresh and all yellowed up in his Brazil shirt.

Nice girlfriend though...

I always like Brazillian babes, jumping around in alarmingly skimpy tops, and Brazilian babes whether or not they come from Brazil.
