Re: Aussie State League Soccer: 18th May

Ive really only read up on the Western Leagu games this season so far. I really dont want to say too much either till the odds are out as i aint gonna heklp no bookie with his research. There's a good home to be had poss in the Premier. In the first (like the premier) all the teams i like are playing each other barr one game. I quite like the sound of 2 homes in total in the western leagues and it looks like its gonna be a busy week for me aussiewise but i aint complaining

Re: Aussie State League Soccer: 18th May

I was just thinking of last seasons Western Premier winners Sorrento's bad start to this season. Lemme look

Quote:
Steve Neville has the difficult task of leading a radically different SORRENTO into the new season. In the six months since the Gulls lifted the Premier League trophy over half of their championship winning side have moved on. As the northern suburbs outfit embark on a period of consolidation and re-building they'll again lean heavily on a successful youth system that has served them well for many years. Neil Young, last seasons' Goalkeeper of the Year, anchors an imposing defence that features seasoned campaigners Richard Watson, Steve McDonald and English import Karl Poore. And the Gulls faithful will have their fingers crossed Glen Thomas, Brodie Martin, James Morgan and Todd Harnwell are in peak creative form from day one. Not likely to the vying for the title and safe from relegation, Sorrento will have little to play for as the season comes to a close.

In – David Ashworth (Artheron, England), Stuart Banks, Sam Doyle (E.C.U. Joondalup), Guy McDonald (Wanneroo City), Steve McDonald (Sengkang Punggol, Singapore), Chris Marsh (Northampton Town, England), Ryan Newhill, Karl Poore (Dorchester Town,England), Danny Taylor (Wanneroo City), Jason Trpcevski (E.C.U. Joondalup), Steven Worthy (Inglewood United)

Out – Andrew Bowyer (long-term injury), Sean Bowyer (Morley Windmills), Ben Davies-Smith (Morley Windmills), Brad Hassell (Morley Windmills), Simon Harland (England), Farrell Hedges (Morley Windmills), Danny Hill (retired), Ozren Kotur, Liam McCallum, Scott Miller (Cockburn City), Shaun Mooney, Michael Ord (Perth S.C.), Chris Ramsey (Morley Windmills)

Funnily enough Morley Windmills have had a good start to the season. Their defeat by Queens Park looks like an anomality (??) i was reading about that game. Actually Kegman wasnt that score posted as a mistake and it was actually 3-0 to Morley?

Re: Aussie State League Soccer: 18th May

Morley did beat Queens Park 3:0 on 5 May. Football West reported it the other way round at first which caused some confusion.
Queens Park are struggling having been an amateur side for the past couple of seasons since the big shake up of football in WA when the two organisations which governed the Semi Pro and Amateur games were disbanded and Football West took control over all spheres, including the women, of the game.
In fact in 2006 they could only finish 5th in the amateur premier division and were only promoted because the amateur champions, Spearwood Dalies (theres a name from the past), refused to become semi-pro and Queens Park were promoted merely because they were the last side relegated from semi pro. Strange how they do things down under.

Re: Aussie State League Soccer: 18th May

Name Changes for 2007

Victoria Division One
Cranbourne Comets have become Casey Comets for 2007 season
North Coburg United have become Coburg United for 2007 season
Dingley City have become Southern Stars – they were in 2006 but UK pools never changed their name.

Victoria Division Four
Albion Rovers have become Cairnlea for 2007 season

West Australia Premier
Fremantle City have become Fremantle Spirit for 2007 season

Tasmania North
Western Knights have become Prospect Knights for 2007 season

Since the season started Ballarat have become Ballarat Red Devils after a sponsorship deal with Haymes and Clifton Hill United have become FC Clifton Hill.

Doubtless the pools companies will catch up in 2008.
