Sevilla wary of double euphoria ahead of final
By Simon Baskett
MADRID, June 21 (Reuters) - Sevilla coach Juande Ramos is concerned that the euphoria created by an outstanding season could torpedo his side's chances of completing a memorable double when they meet Getafe in the final of the King's Cup.
"I'm worried about the whole atmosphere surrounding the club at the moment," Ramos said ahead of Saturday's match at the Bernabeu. "We haven't got the right mentality to play a final.
"It seems everyone is getting ready to go to Madrid to celebrate, but we have to win the Cup first. Nobody seems to have given a thought to the fact that we could lose this game."
The euphoria amongst the Sevilla fans is understandable given that the club is going through one of the most successful periods in its history.
The Andalucians became the first team since Real Madrid to make a successful defence of the UEFA Cup when they beat fellow Spaniards Espanyol at Hampden last month and were in with a chance of winning the league title right up to the final game.
They ended the season in third place in the table, their best finish in the league since 1970 and are now assured of a berth in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, having last played for the European Cup in back in 1957.
But Ramos said his team has good reason to fear Bernd Schuster's Getafe who are also on a high after finishing ninth in the Primera Liga for a second year in succession.
FIRST FINAL
"Getafe are so eager to win their first title that they will be very difficult to stop. They have a great record against the big sides and always play to their own strengths."
Sevilla have won the Cup three times although their last victory was nearly 60 years ago in 1948. Opponents Getafe have never reached a final, let alone won a major trophy.
But the team from a modest industrial satellite town to the south of Madrid have become experts at puncturing the egos of their more illustrious opponents.
They were unbeaten at home in the league against the top six teams and have taken a series of high-profile scalps on their way to the Cup final.
Schuster's side overran Valencia and Osasuna and, after a 5-2 defeat by Barcelona in the semi-final first leg, produced one of the most memorable comebacks in recent years with a humiliating 4-0 defeat of Barca at the Coliseo.
"Anyone who knows anything about football knows that Getafe will be no pushovers," said centre-back David Belenguer.
The only distraction for Getafe is the speculation about the future of Schuster, who is being widely tipped to replace Fabio Capello as coach at Real Madrid.

Read somewhere that Getafe is warning Madrid, since Marca revealed that an exclusive car dealership received an order in his name.. hope he wont be too distracted about a future career move.

Presume you're talking about Schuster, Monty? Press over here seem to think it's pretty much a done deal anyway, although Getafe will fight for compensation, etc.

Re: Spanish Cup Final Jun 23th

I've mentioned this before but everytime I've watched Seville they've impressed me and if Evens are available with Stanley James then I think I'll have some of that.

I know Getafe had a fantastic 2nd leg against Barca but I think that may have been their swan song but as I don't know the players I'll listen keenly at everybodies comments.

Re: Spanish Cup Final Jun 23th

Sevilla have faded a bit in the closing stages of the season though, Kegman. Seems the strain of competing in all 3 competitions (league, cup and UEFA) right until the end has taken a lot out of them. Their manager's also said he doesn't think his players are sufficiently focused at the moment. And to top it off, Kanoute's said he wants to leave. I've not yet decided on my bets (if any), but I think the value lies with Getafe.

Lurieroy, Sevilla are without Adriano. Not sure about Getafe, although I think they're without keeper Abbondanzieri. They've played their reserve keeper all the way through the competition anyway.

Re: Spanish Cup Final Jun 23rd

Tried looking for latest line-ups but ended up having to give up, seems all news are in Spanish, which I tried the online translators with, but
The only news that was able to gather is Sevilla will be without Adriano, but get back Alves, Jesus Navas.
Getafe are without Alexis, Dorado & goalkeeper Abbondancieri. Lets thus leave it to the experts of the Spanish thread RC and Igor5

Re: Spanish Cup Final Jun 23rd

According to Marca, the only major players missing altogether (from the squad) are Adriano and Albin. All the other main players are in the 18-man squads, although that doesn't necessarily mean they'll start (as will be the case for Abbondanzieri, for example).

Marca's predicted lineups:

Sevilla: Palop; Daniel Alves, Javi Navarro, Escudé, Dragutinovic; Jesús Navas, Poulsen, Renato, Puerta; Luis Fabiano y Kanouté.
Getafe: Luis García; Contra, Pulido, Belenguer, Paredes; Mario Cotelo, Celestini, Casquero, Nacho; Manu del Moral y Güiza

Getafe is the better prepared side for us, so small stakes away win, also do believe it will be a low scoring match...

Re: Spanish Cup Final + Segunda B play offs Jun 23-24

Segunda B promotion play offs

23 Jun 18:30 Alicante v Racing Ferrol 1.66 3.50 4.20
24 Jun 18:30 Huesca v Cordoba 1.83 3.25 3.60
24 Jun 18:00 Sevilla Atlético v Burgos 1.44 3.75 6.00
24 Jun 19:30 Eibar v Rayo Vallecano 1.83 3.25 3.60

Odds from Bet365, although they've got their times wrong (I've corrected the times here, but that's Spanish time).

Looking at tonight's game, I quite fancy Ferrol's chances of avoiding defeat. They lead 2-0 from the first leg, so they can afford to lose by one goal, but it's a dangerous game to play to try and defend like that if they do fall behind. In any case, they have a superb away record this season - 8-9-2. Alicante may have finished top of their group, but their home record was a pretty poor 11-2-6. However, I think it's pretty revealing that at home to teams that finished in the top 6, they won just once, losing the other 4. That would suggest they're good at seeing off the weaker teams, but are maybe slightly out of their depth against the better teams. Fair enough they finished top of the group, but to finish with 65 points in a 38 game season isn't overly impressive as a statistic for the champions.

Perhaps also worth noting that Alicante have made the play-offs the last two seasons. Last season they made the final, but after drawing away to Ponferradina in the first leg, they lost at home in the second. The season before that, they lost at the semi-final stage to Lorca, losing both the home and away legs.

Alicante v Ferrol (X2) @ 2.05 2pts
Alicante v Ferrol (DNB) @ 3.2 1pt

Quote:
Getafe can spring Cup surprise

by Mark Langdon

GETAFE, who were in the third division in 2002, can complete their rags-to-riches tale by winning the Copa del Rey against Seville in tonight's Spanish Cup final at the Bernabeu.

The team from the southern outskirts of Madrid have wrongly been written off as underdogs for this showpiece and buying their win index at 9.5 looks the best bet in a game which unfortunately is not live to British television viewers.

However, don't let that put you off having a punt.

Seville have been brilliant all season, lifting the Super Cup, Uefa Cup and finishing third in La Liga, but game No. 61 of the campaign may be a match too far.

Juande Ramos's team have been running on empty for weeks and the injuries are beginning to catch up with the squad. Compare that to Getafe who have been resting key men for the past fortnight in preparation for this contest.

The Dark Blues also show no fear against the big boys.

They knocked Barcelona out in the semi-finals despite being 5-2 behind after the first leg and managed to take four points off champions Real Madrid in La Liga.
Punters can watch the European Under-21 Championship final between Serbia and Holland, although those tuning in are unlikely to witness many corners – neither team has been involved in a game with more than ten flag-kicks.

Quite wisely firms are trading corners as low as 8.7-9.2 which looks about right.

Those desperate for an interest could consider buying Dejan Milovanovic's goal minutes at just four Milovanovic is renowned as a defensive midfielder, but with Milan Smiljanic and Nikola Drincic doing that job so superbly for Serbia, he is asked to push forward.

The Red Star Belgrade man blasted home the winner against Italy and also went close against Czech Republic.

Recommendations
Buy Getafe win index, 1pt at 9.5
Buy D Milovanovic goal minutes, 1pt at 4
