Re: 24-27th July: Ireland
only one today from me...
Derry -0.5 @ 1.95 (5u)
not much to say about team news that hasn't been posted by kaladon, but although galway have been improving defensively of late, they have been marginally lucky on at least the last 2 occasions. against both sligo and bray, they start very average/poor and soak alot of pressure with very little and sporadic counters. both sligo and bray had their fair share of good opportunities to see off galway and both lost points due to poor finishing.
derry have been very hot and cold all season, beating drogheda on the road one game and losing to bray in another, had arguably one of their most creative players missing most the season then joining celtic when fit again, they seemed to be dealt a big blow it may seem. but they have picked themselves up and since the cup win against a weakened bohs in the cup, they have started to play a newish formation that has seen them dominate games in attack. they have some very pacey wingers that can go past players, and create alot of chances and options in the final third. vs bray this is exactly what happened, and vs bohs, they weathered early bohs pressure for the first 20-25mins and started to get into the game with their new system which switches from a 451 to 442 during the course of the game and had many a chance to polish off bohs but for poor finishing albeit against 10 men on the hour mark.
to summarise, derry have found form, formation and balance that has eluded them all season, and if they stick to this system and endorse the old "if it aint broke, don't fix it" quote, they will begin a consistent run and turn their many chances to goals before long.
galway are very slow starters and with still minimal defensive options, you'd expect 40 yr old kenna to start right back once again, and today he can call upon all his experience he wants cos he will need it all today to keep up with mcglynn down the left.
