Belgium Cup?!?

21-03-2006 20:30 Standard - Zulte-Waregem : Standard WIN!!!

So we have here the first half-final of the Belgium Cup. 2 teams from the top of the table will fight for a final place: Standard and Zulte-Waregem!

Third time that 2 teams meat each other. 2 previous games ended 2 times 1-2. Standard won inZulte-Waregem and Zulte-Waregem won in Standard. The times are different now, and we see a clear downtrend for Zulte-Waregem. They work hard, but play very tired, without real chances and without spirit. They've got enough points this year, 4th place is really too high for them. After they lost against Lierse at home with 0-1 they have to get result in Standard. Althought “have to” is not the right word.

Standard learned their lesson after they lost at home against Zulte-Waregem and I'm sure they won't repeat same mistakes. Standard plays good this days, they are good offencive team, maybe you can get fooled by their lately results: 0-0 in Lokeren and only 1-0 against Genk, but I say you that they played 2 times great, only 2 great keepers played their best games this year.

As said, Zulte-Waregem musn't take something in Standard. If they lose with 2-1, 1-0 I don't think they will be mad, coz this is a good result for them, knowing that they have still a home game. For Standard it's a must win, they are hungry for the cup! Standard trainer said that they have to win with big difference to secure their place in final already in the first half-final game.

All in all, Zulte-Waregem had a superb season, but their fable is over, and if we are realistic, they have no chance in the hell of Sclessin. The game can be sold-out, Standard fans knows how to make hot atmosphere!

22-03-2006 20:30 Charleroi - Moeskroen : Charleroi WIN!!

The day after Standard-Zulte-Waregem we have the second half-final between 2 frenche speaking clubs. Charleroi is on fire now. They won against Lokeren with their class. Mamroug (their stadion) is hot place now. Much more fans coming to the stadion. Some years ago Charleroi was always a relegation candidate. Since Jacky Matthijsen (coach) came to the club, they began to win. Althought he is a defencive minded coach, he gets results.

Moeskroen dissapointed me a lot when they play away. They are good at home, but away, they play very defencive minded and we can get a boring match here. Moeskroen lost this week-end to Germinal Beerschot but in fact they deserved a point. Germinal Beerschot had much luck ..

Charleroi won with 3-1 against Lokeren. Matthijsen made brilliant substitutions (striker Akgül came in). Lokeren played good, but Charleroi played with their hart, tried to win, and won.

It's difficult to guess who will win here. Charleroi has to attack here because they are playing at home and have to get a good result for the return, but Charleroi coach is smart, and knows that Charleroi CAN'T afford to conceed a goal. So they will play from defence, trying to attack slow but clever

Moeskroen has a bad away reputation and their first aim is not to conceed a goal. They will defend, also trying to score via a counter-attack.

So, we can see here a very boring game, but knowing that Charleroi must win, and that they are playing at home with hot atmosphere I give Charleroi the advantage and say that they will WIN but not more than 2-0, this is also my final verdict:1-0 or 2-0 FT

Good luck!

It's OK Lokorus, we hadn't forgotten the Belgian Cup, but we just grouped a few of the Cup competitions in together in the same thread this week.

Great previews as always, and good luck with your picks

Re: European Cup Games: 21st/22nd/23rd March

Hey Komp--I'm looking at Bordeaux. Pretty good odds considering they are playing a mid table Ligue 2 side. I need to try and find more info before I back them tho.

Anyone have any info on the side Bordeaux will field tomorrow or any other info regarding their matchup with Montpellier?
