Re: French League PSG vs Strasbourg 02/04/08

Im getting 4/5 in the local and think its a great price for a PSG side who must win to get themselves out of the relegation mess they are in. After winning the French league cup on sunday against Lens this should surely instill some confidence in Paul Le Guens men. In their previous league game they were beat 4-2 at Lyon but pulled the game back to 2-2 at one stage. I feel this shows that PSG are up for the fight. Strasbourg will also be dragged into the relegation zone if they lose but they are poor on the road and havent been playing too well recently. Im planning a large single on PSG tomorrow night.

Oh. I came in to ask about Strasbourg actually as I thought they looked a bit big. 6.39 @ Pinnacle

1 win in 6 for them but it looks a half decent one at Le Mans UC while PSG are without a win in 6 (8 to be precise) and aren't the most prolific when it comes to goals. I was fancying the X2 if I'm honest and was hoping for some insight.

If I was going to go for anything, Mickey, I'd go for Strasbourg the same as you. PSG are priced purely on reputation, nothing more - how else can a team in the relegation zone with 2 wins from 15 home games be priced at around 1.7?

Strasbourg's away record isn't the greatest, but if you look at the "away table" for this league, PSG have already been beaten at home by 2 teams with a worse away record than Strasbourg - Lorient and Caen - plus Toulouse, who have a near enough identical away record to Strasbourg.

I'm almost talking myself into Strasbourg, you know

Cheers, gillsy. 2 home wins in 15 for PSG is quite appalling really isn't it? And one of them was against the bottom club, the other coming against 4th bottom. And a 1-1 draw in their last home match against the league's bottom away side. Dear oh dear.

I'm not sure what to do with this information though. X2 @ around evens seems a likely candidate but.. but...

Lay PSG on Betfair, Mickey, you can lay them for 1.72 I think (well, you could about half an hour ago when I last looked). I've gone for that and a little nibble on Strasbourg to win outright.

I think the great cup win on Sunday for PSG will hopefully jolt them into life and spark something. As ive said its bound to motivate and in their last game they scored 2 goals away to Lyon something the vast majority of teams in the league havent done.

The Cup final could just as easily count against them though really Cinny. Hard fought game and the celebrations from winning a cup on Sunday, and back to earth with a bump in a relegation scrap on the Wednesday. Strasbourg meanwhile will have had all week to prepare for this game.

Good luck with your bet anyway.

Re: French League PSG vs Strasbourg 02/04/08

From another site the head to heads between both sides is as follows, strasbourg have got one draw and suffered 14 defeats.

Paris SG v Strasbourg

10-SEP-05 Paris SG 1-0 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

25-SEP-04 Paris SG 1-0 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

03-DEC-03 Paris SG 3-2 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

14-SEP-02 Paris SG 3-0 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

28-JUL-00 Paris SG 3-1 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

26-JAN-00 Paris SG 4-2 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

16-DEC-98 Paris SG 0-0 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

11-JAN-98 Paris SG 2-1 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

24-MAY-97 Paris SG 2-1 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

21-SEP-95 Paris SG 2-0 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

17-DEC-94 Paris SG 1-0 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

11-DEC-93 Paris SG 2-0 Strasbourg France Le Championnat

However your thoughts on strasbourg have put me off a bit i must say. Good luck with your bet also atleast one of us will win.

Re: French League PSG vs Strasbourg 02/04/08

I sort of agree with that (post #7), Cinny and am sure it will inspire a bit of confidence but if I'm being cold about it; their record this season is still pretty bad so the Strasbourg price looks too big.

Narrow home win wouldn't come as a shock but at the same time, if they don't win, that's no shock either and there appears enough (on paper at least) to suggest there's a better chance they won't win than the odds given. I think that makes sense anyway.

I'm not going daft on this though so can still wish you luck and won't grumble too much if they positively dismantle my brave Strasbourg boys.

On paper i agree too that the value lies with strasbourg and the odds of 6.3 are very big i just think if PSG dont win today they look doomed and i couldnt see them relegated but havent peope said that bout many teams before.

Good luck tonight too mate im off to footy training so ill no the score about 8.

Re: French League PSG vs Strasbourg 02/04/08

The problem with the H2H is that most of those games were when PSG were a major force in France. They've been in a major slump now for the last couple of seasons (they didn't play Strasbourg last season though), and I don't think Strasbourg are going to get many better chances than this to end their terrible run in Paris.

As Mickey says, a home win wouldn't be a surprise, but IMO an away win wouldn't be a huge surprise either, and given the prices on offer, the value definitely looks in the away win.

Re: French League PSG vs Strasbourg 02/04/08

PSG will go 4-4-2 and start upfront with Pauletta and Luyindula they have 6 goals from 19 and 4 goals from 23 respectivley,PSG do have another 3 strikers, but when you consider Pauletta and Diane(sub) are PSG topscorers with 6 each they dont seem to have any strikers upfront with any potencey. The goals wont be coming from midfield either as Clement 39 apperences in the last 2 seasons has failed to score along with Chantome with 60 apperences has also failed to score,Rothene does have 3 goals although 2 have been from the spot.

On Strasbourg,
Strikers Eric MOULOUNGUI averaged 1 in 3 games in lique 2 and has 3 from 26 this season they do have a Columbian striker Wason RENTERIA who has 8 from 23 in hes first season with the club
Midfield is made of French players that have been with the club for the majority if not all their carears.
In Defence the one weak link might be DUCROCQ who was with PSG and was sold to Lique 2 side La Harve were he spent 5 seasons and now at 31 is back at the top level.

PSG dont look convincing, but then again neither do Strasbourg and would avoid this game.

To add
Strasbourg have named 2 midfielders on the subs bench one which hasnt played this season and the other with only 2 apperences.

PSG had a goal disallowed for offside according to L'Equipe, still 0-0 though after 35 minutes.
