Re: MLS 14th July - 16th July

Just a few quick thoughts on the upcoming friendly between DC and Celtic.

DC players will want to play to impress due to the coverage of the game. On the other hand, the DC coach would also want to limit their playing time of the first 11 due to the upcoming game with Columbus in 2 days.

Celtic now have their senior squad joining them to ramp up their preparations for the noew season and crucially to prepare for their CL games. Still, there are quite a few players that are new and 2 key players out due to sickness. It might take more than the first game for the younger players to start gelling with the seniors.

Weather has been quite bad in DC with Thunderstorms off and on and humidity > 85%. Pitch will be rather slow due to the MLS style of a wee bit longer grass. Couple that with the will of both teams wanting to put up a good show, the match could go either way. Both would not like to lose though, and DC does have a habit of keeping scores low against good or better teams.

I'll probably put a small bet on Under 2.5 and watch in running to see if there is any value to go for either team.

Cheers and Good Luck...!

Cheers Zzax and look forward to your thoughts when yo have the time available.

Credit should go to the others who participate now also such as Sponger, Igor etc as these guys spurn me on to continue otherwise i wouldn't if no one was bothering.

Louis - not one to get involved in friendlies as they are always dangerous but EdgeSeeks post is very good.

Huge game for DC and they will be looking to make a name for themselves. I fancy Celtic myself to edge it as the quality in the end shouldtell but it should be a close run game.

Celtic take their friendlies in the US very seriously as they have a large following there so i imagine Strachan will play as strong a squad as possible.

Good luck with your bet whatever you choose though.

Re: MLS 14th July - 16th July

Wow....4-0 DC with 10 minutes to go

DC even had the luxery to take their entire team off to rest them for the weekend which is always a good thing for us likey DC backers.

Completely wiping the floor with Celtic (who i must say didn't look like they had the best of sides out to be honest).

All this without their star man Moreno too

Re: MLS 14th July - 16th July

Right time to put some posts up. Im only going to do the two odds on bets right now as they are straight forward enough. Will do the other ones later when i read up on team news.

DC United v Columbus

In any other league this game would be priced around the 1.30 mark so 1.52 is a valueable bet.

Not much needs said on this to be honest. You have by far and away the best outfit in MLS this season.

DC are a superb all round unit with quality in all departments. Defensively they have stepped it up in recent weeks. Midfield they have the perfect combination of battle and flair and then the genius upfront that is Moreno.

Coming off a very convincing victory over Celtic last night where they won 4-0. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...71874644&hl=en Have a look at the video, they played some great stuff and it was great to see Adu turn on the style as he has been lacking in recent weeks and this will hopefully be the confidence booster he needs and continues this in the league.

DC rested 6 players from the starting line up and then changed their entire 11 after 60 minutes so they aren't going to be tired.

Unbeaten in 19 games now and momentum very high. Beaten Columbus in their last 2 encounters. 1-0 at the weekend away and then 5-1 at home a few weeks back and i wouldn't be surprised to see a similar scoreline here the way they are playing.

Columbus are now winless in 7 and until they get a goalscorer in their ranks and a quality creative player this is going to continue to be the case as they are so weak upfront, probably the weakest in the whole MLS.

They did have a 4-1 win over a lower league outfit last night in the cup but I wouldn't look too much into this to be honest.

DC will win this and possibly with lots to spare too. The home win looks a very very probable result as the odds suggest and i will have some of that aswell as a handicap bet also.

DC to win @ 1.52 Betfair (9/10)
DC -1 @ 2.5 Bet 365 (3/10)

Re: MLS 14th July - 16th July

EDIT - Folks, bit of news a few posts down concerning NE and i no longer find them such a value bet anymore and approach it with reduced stakes if your getting involved.

NE Revolution v Real Salt Lake (RSL)

Again, very similar to the DC game and not one that needs much said on it. Some bookies go 1.40 on the home win and thats about right imo so the 1.57 at Hills is a decent price.

Like mentioned earlier in the thread NE have had a rest they have been after for a while now after a hectic schedule. The same cannot be said for RSL who have just come off a midweek game that went to extra time and had an additional 30 minute delay due to storms so some fatigue should be creeping in here.

NE have a good bone to their side and although they have been conceding goals lately i cannot see RSL causing them too much problems.

Noonan came off the bench last week and he should be fit and a starter which will be a boost to them.

Dempsey has come back better than ever after a good showing in the world cup chipping in with 3 goals so far.

The Revs struggled whilst they were missing him to the WC and since he has returned they have looked like the side of last season where for the best part of the season looked like they wouldn't be stopped.

A good reliable home outfit and if they really hit it off RSL could be on to a bit of a doing.

After a mini resurgence RSL are now winless in 6 games now and having watched their last game its obvious to see why.

No fight in midfield. No quality to hold the ball up and distribute well and strikers who are really struggling to find the net.

Cunningham was dropped last week due to his poor showing recently which is mad when you think as he is their top goalscorer this season.

Defensively they look quite weak again which is strange as their 2 best defenders (pope and sequira) were at the world cup you would expect their defence to struggle but they didn't and put in some great performances. Now these 2 have returned you would've thought they would be even better now but its not the case and they look very dodgy again.

The full backs are a huge cause for concern right now imo as teams are getting behind them time after time and if the opposition could make better final balls their results would be worse than they are.

This is where Dempsey and Noonan could get an awful lot of joy.

Odds suggest NE are the dominant side mind and after a good few weeks in MLS i don't feel there are any real good bets so its probably best to stick with the safer ones, even if they are at shorter odds.

NE to win @ 1.57 William Hills (7/10)
NE -1 euro handicap @ 2.5 Bet 365 (2/10)

Good stuff as usual Kiko.

DC -1 AH is only 1.8 on Bet365. Are you referring to Euro Handicap when you say -1? I can't find the Euro Handicap market on Bet365 for some reason

You should also note that Euro Handicap -1 is equivalent to -1.5 on AH.

Yeah im not the best with all these handicaps etc but it seems a good price as i wouldn't be surprised to see both teams run out comfortable winners.

On Bet 365 go to MLS section and then click on the game then a list of other markets for that game will come up. Scroll down to the bottom and click on "handicap result" and you should find it there

Have to say this is a VERY tricky week in MLS bar the two games i posted. Think i will give Kansas a miss possibly although if Dallas are going to be definately missing Ruiz i will have some of Chicago.

Re: MLS 14th July - 16th July

Got it Kiko . The euro handicap market is certainly well hidden in Bet365

Ok just a quick word on these handicaps ('ll try to get you on MSN one of these days to explain in detail).

For a bet on euro handicap -1 to win, the favoured team has to win by at least 2 clear goals.

It is exactly the same for AH -1 exceptfor the additional benefit of getting a 'push' (stakes returned) if the favoured team only manages to win by 1 goal.

Re: MLS 14th July - 16th July

Check this out, as of right now it looks like Dempsey will be suspended for Friday's game.

http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer/...fridays_match/

Kiko, you still think NE will have too much for RSL?

Lots of conspiracy theories coming out of this in the fan forums. I'll post a few in a bit.

Here's one from a fan forum:
MLS is annoyed about the schedule conflict between the All-Star Game and a regular club game that requires the one US player who got out of Germany looking genuinely good has to skip their giant marketing bonanza. The suspension is two games. He serves one, appeals the other, MLS rejects the appeal, and requires him to serve the suspension during the Chivas game, thus putting the league's new hot national teamer back into their commercial game.

Here's another:
MLS is in the final stages of negotiating an immediate transfer of Dempsey to a European club. A 2 game suspension gives MLS enough time to finalize the deal, and protects Dempsey from an injury that would jeapordize the deal.

Re: MLS 14th July - 16th July

Thats interesting stuff Spondger as i remember reading something from fans about Eddie Johnson. You might remember he stayed on in Germany an extra week causing unrest in his sides camp but the fans were putting the blame on the MLS bosses saying they were trying to broker a deal to a european club and he was eager to get back to play.

All a bit fishy isn't it.

He would be a great signing for a club and i wouldn't mind my team Celtic getting him to be honest.

NE will be weakened most definately and its not the strongest of bets as i first had it as now. Think they will still win but i am not so sure about the handicap.

Is he definately missing this weekend?
