Re: Spain - Cup
Odds from Bet365. Ignore those kick off times, not sure why they're all listed as 14:00 kick-offs, they kick off tonight between 20:00 and 22:00 (Spanish time).
Will try to have a look at this later, see whether there's anything of interest.
Here's the link that explains the format. http://www.thedailypunt.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=13558
Basically all the teams lower than the Segunda play between themselves up until the last 32, meaning 6 of them are guaranteed a place in that round and a game against a team from the Primera, so they have an incentive to take this seriously. Castellon have got a bye into the next round.

Re: Spain - Cup
Reading the previews on As, and it's getting pretty repetitive - just about all the Segunda teams are putting out the reserves. Apparently Numancia won't have any of the players who won at Malaga at the weekend. Poli Ejido are expected to change the keeper and one of their central defenders, but other than that, not too many changes for them. They apparently defended well in Valladolid at the weekend, may be worth considering (although they're now changing the defence that defended well ).
Tenerife are also talking up this game, they seem to be taking it seriously, could be worth considering against Alaves.
Cadiz's manager is saying he'll be putting out a strong team (though not necessarily a first choice team) with Primera Liga experience. Sporting's manager says if it was up to him, they wouldn't even play the Cup . Still says he'll put out a team to try to win though. Cadiz no better than 1.83 available, and with this being the Cup, I don't think I really fancy backing any teams at odds on.
Right, just found one that I am definitely interested in. Rayo Vallecano, as I've mentioned a few times in the league threads, are a big team to be in the Segunda B, and their sole aim this season is to get out of there. They couldn't care less about the Cup. Their manager in the build-up to this game has said that "Rayo will try to present a good image in a prestigious competition, but it's not our priority. Against Lugo, there will be players who have to prove that we need them and that they're worth a place in the team". Only one player who started at the weekend is expected to start, and only two of the others from the weekend have even travelled to Lugo for this game, all the rest have stayed in Madrid (Rayo are from a suburb of Madrid, by the way). Lugo, meanwhile, are the exact opposite. They actually rested players in their league game at the weekend so that they'd be OK for tonight's game. They lost 4-0 away to the leaders Universidad (who have a 100% record) at the weekend with that weakened side, but their home form has been good this season, they've won both their games, 4-0 v Celta B and 4-2 v Lanzarote. They have a 2-1-1 record this season, compared to Rayo's 1-2-1, with Lugo 7th in the league and Rayo 10th (they're both in the same group in the Segunda B, group 1). Rayo away from home have drawn both games.
So, for the second round running I'll back Lugo.
Lugo v Rayo Vallecano @ 2.3 3pts
Off to see if there's anything else worth backing, still thinking on Tenerife.

Re: Spain - Cup
Right, found something else I like the look of. I can't understand why Puertollano are 2.50 (or longer in some places) against Lleida. The only reason I can think of is that last season Puertollano were in the 3rd division, while Lleida were in the Segunda. Puertollano got promoted, Lleida relegated, and now they're both in the Segunda B. They've both made very different starts, however, with Puertollano 5th in group 1 (3-0-1 record this season), and Lleida struggling in 18th (out of 20) in group 3, with a 0-2-2 record this season. Puertollano have won both home games so far 2-0, while Lleida have lost both away games, 0-1 and 0-2.
Reading on the Lleida website, the manager has said that the competition is made for teams from the top two divisions, and for lower league teams “it means more losses than anything else”, but that he needs to use this game to get the players playing as a team the way he wants. To be fair he's got a point there, I've mentioned that the cup will be a potential money-spinner for the 6 lower league teams who make it to the last 32, but for those that don't, it can prove quite expensive. Remember reading the other day that one team in this competition, can't remember who now, were complaining at getting drawn away to a team from the Canary Islands, meaning they were going to have to fly out, leading to enormous expense for such a small club.
Anyway, given the two teams' respective starts to the season, I think 2.50 is far too big a price for the home side. Not much team news for this one, so small stakes, but:
Puertollano v Lleida Lérida @ 2.50 2pts

Re: Spain - Cup
Looking at it, I think it may have been Santa Eulalia that were complaining. Mind you, it seems they're from the Balearic Islands anyway, so I guess it makes no difference whether they have to go to the Canaries or to mainland Spain, it still involves flying. They're only a 3rd division team, the 3rd division is more or less a regional league, their group is a group made of teams from the Balearic Islands.
Interesting game in Gimnastic Segovia v Cartagena. Gimnastic ran away with their Div 3 group last season, won it by 8 points, finishing on 97 points from 38 games , but still didn't get promoted, as the promotion places are decided by play-offs, in which they lost out to Lugo in the 2nd round. They've started off in a similar vein this season, with 4 wins from 4. They're playing Cartagena, who are top of Segunda B group 4, with a 3-1-0 record. Not one for betting on here, I don't think, but will be interesting to see how it goes. Well, I'll be interested anyway .
One more I'm thinking about now, Linares away to Badajoz. Badajoz actually finished 7th in the Segunda B group 4 last season, but were relegated to the Tercera for financial reasons (not paying players). It seems they were virtually run into the ground by their chairman (news on the website from August says negotiations were ongoing for someone to buy out his shares, but no news on whether it's actually happened), but their future was uncertain for some time and it seems they only have a squad mainly made up of youngsters now. They've lost all 3 of their games so far in the 3rd division, and only got to this 2nd round of the cup due to a bye in the 1st round.
Linares meanwhile haven't made a bad start in the Segunda B group 4, they won 1 and drew 2 of their first 3 games before going down to a 4-0 thrashing at home to Portuense this weekend. Despite that last result, I think Linares should be too strong for them here.
Badajoz v Linares @ 2.20 2pts

Re: Spain - Cup
Great info RCG.
I know bugger all about Spanish footie below the top division but based on what you say I think I'll have a small punt on Lugo, Tenerife and Poli Ejido
