Dundalk v Shamrock looks a toughie tonight. top v 2nd top. Both teams playing well. Shamrock seem to have the better of the recent encounters but i really couldnt tell you much more than that. Anyone fancy getting involved in this one?

From Dundalkfc.com....

Dundalk’s first choice pairing at the back, Robert McAuley (suspended) and Aidan Lynch (calf) both certain absentees for the Lilywhites.

Midfielder Robbie Clarke is suspended for Shamrock Rovers. Don't know how important he is but definitely a regular first team player.

Re: Irish Football: 21st -23rd Sept

Thursday night sees a clash of the top two in the first division of the eircom League. Shamrock Rovers currently have the edge on Dundalk by virtue of goal-difference. Both have been in good runs of form though and a win for either at Oriel Park would have a huge impact on the final table.

Dundalk vs Shamrock Rovers
(Oriel Park - 7:45 pm - Division 1)
Referee : Stephen Toner

Dundalk are now unbeaten in fourteen league games, winning ten of them. Rovers are unbeaten in fourteen games, including their advance in the FAI Cup, although they have drawn more games recently than Dundalk.

With the method of "promotion" to next season's FAI Premier Division still clouded, both clubs know that winning the First Division crown is no guarantee of going up, but it may at least give the authorities something to think about when decision day arrives.

Robert McAuley is suspended for Dundalk as they struggle for defensive options with Aidan Lynch and Brian Kelly also set to miss out through injury.

Rovers boss Pat Scully laughed off suggestions of any unrest in the camp earlier in the week. He has to plan without suspended full back Robbie Clarke. On loan defender Shane Guthrie remains out with Tadhg Purcell also doubtful.

The game will the fourth and final meeting of the sides this year and Rovers have the upper-hand after winning two of the previous three games. The last meeting ended in a 0-0 draw at Tolka Park in July.

League form for Dundalk : DWWWW
League form for Shamrock Rovers : WWDDW

Previous meeting(s) : Shamrock Rovers 0-0 Dundalk (23/07/2006)
Dundalk 0-2 Shamrock Rovers (11/05/2006)
Shamrock Rovers 2-1 Dundalk (10/03/2006)

Very good preview on the above link. I would be inclined to go for a Dundalk victory if pushed. Taking out their desperate start to the league they have been the best team in the division. Id imagine there will probably be their biggest crowd of the season.

In the Premier i would think:
Bohs - Waterford : For some reason like last season Waterford have ended a massive losing run with a run of form : 7 points in their last 3 games. Bohs season is officially over they are currently searching for a manager and some young players were blooded in Cork last week. No Bet

Drogheda - Bray: Bray have become a laughing stock. They are absolutely atrocious at the moment. Their manager has been quoted as saying he does not know what to do with the team. He put in a few youngsters last week and they lost 2-0 at home to Longford. Drogheda have been stuttering for a while and will know they must win here to keep pace with Cork in the quest for third place which gives an intertoto cup spot and also a Setanta cup spot now that Derry have won the league cup. Id expect them to win here and 2-0 might be worth a look.

UCD - Cork City: UCD have had 4 0-0 draws in a row and must be the most boring team in Europe. Cork managed to get 2 wins in a row but their main striker John O'Flynn is still struggling with injury and was taken off in their last game(a 1-0 win at home to Bohs). I'l have a little on a 0-0 as neither teams inspires me to bet on them. 7/10 currently available for under 2.5 on betuk is a good bet.

Sligo Rovers - St.Pat's: A win for Sligo would have been my main bet in the premier division this weekend but the team new from sligo is not that favourable. 6/5 with Stan James is probably worth a look though because St.Pats are pish at the moment St.Pat's started the season well but have drifted away woefully since the world cup break(they have 6 points from their last 10 matches). Sligo were brought back down to earth with a bump with a 3-0 defeat at home to Cork in their last match but it was a blip in my opinion ( some reports said the score was not a true reflection) and they have good enough players like Harpal Singh and Darren Mansaram going forward to beat St.Pats whose problem is they cant score.

Shelbourne - Derry: The sides met in Derry on Tuesday in the league cup final with Derry winning on penalties after playing most of extra-time with 9 men. Shels were probably the better team during the game however. Derry are battling on too many fronts at the moment(going all the way in the league cup ,still in the fai and the uefa). Their players are definetly at risk of fatigue(some of them are not even full-time players) and for this reason only i am inclined to go with Shels with stanjames obliging again at 11/8. Derry will be missing both players sent off on Tuesday i think.

In the first Galway United should see off Monaghan. I was down at our last game against Kilkenny last weekend and it was not a great performance. However we have won 3 on the bounce and have players back for the game. I did a Galway/Drogheda double at 1.94 on betuk.

Shelbourne host Derry City in a first versus second clash in the Premier Division of the eircom League on Friday night. The game will be the sixth of seven meetings between the clubs this year. Although Derry have three games in hand on the Dublin side, they can't afford to lose at Tolka Park on Friday night as they currently trail by seven points and a ten point gap might be too much to make up with an already hectic schedule facing them.

Shelbourne vs Derry City
(Tolka Park - 7:45 pm - Premier - Live on TG4)
Referee : Paul Tuite

After their incident packed League Cup Final on Monday night, it's back to the battle for the title at Tolka Park on Friday night.

Derry's strength in depth should help them after Monday's marathon with Stephen O'Flynn and Kevin McHugh both in line for a return after playing no part on Monday night. Goalkeeper, and hero of Monday night, Pat Jennings will start in goal in place of the suspended David Forde. Killian Brennan is also suspended. Derry hope to have Eddie McCallion back in the starting line-up although it may be too soon for Gareth McGlynn.

Shelbourne welcome back Joseph Ndo after injury while Jason Byrne could start although Pat Fenlon may opt to hold him in reserve for a late run. Defender Sean Dillon is suspended and Jamie Harris is likely to slot in for him, minimizing any reshuffle at the back.

Of the clubs' previous five meetings so far this year, both Setanta Sports Cup games ended in draws, Shels won in the league in June, Derry advanced in August's FAI Cup game and Derry triumphed after a penalty shoot out in Monday's League Cup Final.

Re: Irish Football: 21st -23rd Sept

I fancy Shels to do the business against ffice:smarttags" />Derry. They’re simply far superior to Derry and unfortunately the fanless bunch of wankers are going to win the league and remain in existence. May as well make some money off it!fficeffice" />

Derry are still going strong in all competitions (Won the league cup, FAI cup, League and UEFA Cup), not to mention they played 120 min’s against Shels on Mon night ( 40 of which with 9 men I think).

I saw Shels beat Pats last week. They were not great and fortunate not to have a man sent off whilst 1 nil down, but managed to fight back and win. They have the best midfielder in the league in Ndo and I can see Ndo and Jason Byrne causing problems for Derry on Friday.

Shelbourne Draw no bet at 10/11 or better would be excellent. I aint betting on this but Id recommend Shels

Regarding Sligo – St Pats.

I’ll be there

We've beaten Sligo 3-1 in ours and drew 1-1 in Sligo earlier this season for the record
