Re: Irish Football 29th Sept - 1st Oct

kilkenny do have a good record at monagh mind igor. in the past year or so theyve won 4-1, 3-1 , and 3-0. throw in a 0-0 draw too. that always worries me a bit but the form makes monagh look a good price to me.

Quote:
Monaghan should be at full strength for the game but Kilkenny plan without the suspended Sean Lestrange. Peter Darcy is out injured while Paddy O'Hanlon is away and Willie Doyle is an injury doubt
hoh hoh i like a bit of Galway myself igor. Whats this about international duties folks?

Quote:
Galway's Wesley Charles is away on international duty while Phillip Reilly is suspended. Ciaran Foley and Alan Murphy return after bans. Ronan Frawley and Barry Moran are both injured.

Limerick should plan from a similar squad with chairman Danny Drew continuing in charge of managerial duties
i think theyd have to win by about 7 goals to go top by my reckoning

Cork looks no value to me. new manager syndrome, too many draws etc etc

ooo PTDSEI will be all excited bless his cotton socks. Look up against it tonight PTD? Good luck.

Quote:
The Saints FAI Cup drought has become something of a running joke at this stage and they haven't won it since 1961. Their recent record against Longford Town isn't great either and they've won only three of their last fifteen games against the Midlanders. One of those wins was the 2003 League Cup Final and the last time the Saints beat the Town was October 2004 - less than a week after Longford clinched their second FAI Cup win

Kevin Grogan is out injured for the Saints with Stephen Quigley and Michael Foley both rated as doubtful. Mark Rooney and Keith Fahey are both cup-tied.

Damien Brennan and David Freeman are both cup-tied and miss out for Longford who also have to plan without the suspended Stephen Paisley and injured John Martin.
2/1 looks ok to me but i fear a dour 0-0.

Re: Irish Football 29th Sept - 1st Oct

I go along with the pick on Monaghan against Kilkenny. Kilkenny haven't won in ages and Monaghan are more that capable of putting them to the sword, they are not actually that bad of a team on their day. I will stick in Sligo to make it a double at betuk where sligo are on offer at a standout 1/4. Killester United are a junior team ie completly amateur and qualified for this round by beating another non-league team and recieving a bye against defunct Dublin City. I'l probably put a few euro on Harpal Singh to be first goalscorer at 8/1 at paddypower also. He has scored 4 goals from his position on the wing since arriving mid-season and id say there will be chances to score against killester.

Wesley Charles is on international duty with St.Vincent and the Grenadines komp and its a pity too because he is probably Galway United's best defender. We have won our last 4 without being completly convincing(last 2 wins over Kilkenny and Monaghan) but we have a fantastic head-to-head(won the last 10 in a row)record against Limerick who continue to be managed by their chairman. Im goin to stick a few euro on us to do the business against them again tonight but i wont be putting on my rent money or anything like that.

Re: Irish Football 29th Sept - 1st Oct

Well briefly

a). I backed Monaghan this morning. I recall reading a while back that their side are half decent when they are able to put a first choce XI out. I have been opposing Kilkenny for weeks and weeks. They have come close to getting a draw once or twice recently but I am more than happy to take Monaghan at odds against at home.

b). Slightly worried about backing Galway when I saw they had a couple missing but then I read the Limerick forum at Footie.ie. They aren't happy and players have been released. Discontent pervades. Galway have a clear incentive as they have a realistic chance of being Champions and with their large squad that should be good enough against a disillussioned opposition with little to play for

c). Also backed Kildare tomorrow. Harps have 3 suspended and one injured. A couple of players are coming in who aren't named as 1st team squad players on their website. The bench will be from the U 21's.

Post script to my Kildare tip.

Rumours abound in Donegal along the lines that players haven't been turning up for training this week at Harps. Some fans brand them a disgrace on the forums.

Re: Irish Football 29th Sept - 1st Oct

from www.finnharps.com:

It will be a considerably under-strength Finn Harps that will be taking to the Finn Park turf on Saturday night next to face Kildare County with injury and suspension again to the forefront of Anthony Gorman's thoughts.

Yet again Gorman's side will be weakened for the visit of The Thoroughbreds and certainly it wouldn't be wrong to say that the Twin Towns side are now really down to the bare bones in terms of personnel.

Jonathan Minnock, Michael Funston and Darren Meenan will all be absent through respective suspensions, while Davitt Walsh will again be an absentee because of an ankle injury sustained in the game against Dundalk two weeks ago.

It is believed that the Kerrykeel native will be out of action for quite some time with a period of about six weeks being mooted as a timeframe for the recovery of the star striker.

In the absence of Walsh, plus the aforementioned suspended trio, Gorman's options are limited and the array of experience he will have at his disposal for Saturday's game will be limited.

It is expected that Ryan McGavigan, Shane O'Connor and Matthew Crossan will be the players to step into the breach with the substitute's bench being made up of players from the under 21 squad.

Harps' run of games without tasting victory has now stretched to seven on the bounce and their aspirations of making a late push for one of the top three spots in the Division have diminished in recent weeks.

At this stage it looks as if the remaining eight games will just be a matter of playing out season 2006 and worryingly for the powers that be at Finn Park the crowds won't be flocking to the ground in the next few weeks.

With just those four home games left over the next eight weeks, one would suspect that all will not be well on the financial front unless another fundraiser is organised to ease the burden.

Currently Harps are sitting sixth in the standings but Kildare picked up a point from their clash with Limerick FC on Saturday night to bring them to within a point of Harps.

More worryingly for Harps, Athlone Town are just three points adrift of them, so they really need to start picking up points swiftly or they could well be battling it out for one of the bottom spots.

With seven gone without winning, Harps have dropped to mid-table obscurity and a win on Saturday night would go a long way to injecting some confidence and morale back into the squad ahead of the run in.

It would seem, that with just under a quarter of the season remaining, that next season is already been looked at and with 14 points separating them from the summit of the table, it would be hard to argue with this notion.
