Re: Irish Eircom Leagues: 9th/10th Oct

Shamrock Rovers will be hoping to return to winning ways as they host Limerick in one of the Hoops' two games in hand tonight. Going into the game at Tolka Park, Rovers trail joint-leaders Galway United and Dundalk by six points - although the Dublin club have a better goal-difference.

(Tolka Park - 8:00 pm - Division 1)
Referee : Derek Tomney

Rovers boss Pat Scully returns to the dugout after a ban and he will be hoping his side bounce back after picking up just one point in their last two league outings. The last outing was the loss to Galway at Terryland Park on Friday night.

Mark O'Brien and Paul Shiels each face a couple of weeks out through injury. Vinny Perth is one of a number of players carrying knocks although he should feature.

Limerick could yet claim a top four finish, not great given their early start, but the freefall has at least been slowed. They won 2-1 in Monaghan on Friday night.

Robbie Kelleher is unlikely to feature for Limerick with a knee problem while Kevin Waters - scorer of both goals in Monaghan - is a doubt. He went off injured after the celebration of his winning goal on Friday.

Limerick have had Rovers' number so far this season, beating them twice in Hogan Park and drawing at Tolka Park in September.

Re: Irish Eircom Leagues: 9th/10th Oct

gonna have a read of these-

Quote:
Preview: Longford Town v Shelbourne

Shelbourne will be hoping at the very least to maintain their nine point lead over Derry City tonight. Shels travel to face Longford Town in the Premier Division of the eircom League and are looking for their fifth win in six league games.

Longford Town vs Shelbourne
(Flancare Park - 7:45 pm - Premier)
Referee : Anthony Buttimer

Longford looked reborn after their FAI Cup humbling against St. Pats and were desperately unlucky not to leave Turner's Cross with all three points on Friday. A late Cork City equaliser actually saw them slip to ninth in the Premier Division table.

The omens are not good for Longford going into the game. Since hammering Shels 4-1 near the end of 2004, Longford have lost four of the five games played between the two clubs. The Town have failed to score in any of those five games.

Danny O'Connor and Davy Byrne return after suspensions to strengthen the Longford squad but Dessie Baker is out after his late red card against Cork on Friday. Manager Alan Matthews is apparently still banned although the football authorities have yet to acknowledge the situation.

Full-backs Owen Heary and Dave Rogers are set to return after injury for Shels. Both missed the win in Waterford at the weekend but both should return. Top scorer Jason Byrne could also be in line for a return, although an injury problem for Glen Crowe may force the issue anyway.

Preview: Derry City v Drogheda United

Although it's well into October already, Derry City and Drogheda United meet tonight for the first time in the League this year. A string of postponements due to UEFA Cup commitments means the two sides have to play each other three times in the next month.

Derry City vs Drogheda United
(Brandywell Stadium - 7:45 pm - Premier)
Referee : Pat Whelan

The wheels have come off the Derry City bandwagon a little in recent weeks and while draws against Cork and Shelbourne kept them well in the title race, a home draw with Bohemians did huge damage. Four draws in their last four league outings has seen Derry slip nine points behind Shels. However, it is still far from over for the Candsytripes as they still have three games in hand on the Dublin club with Shels due to visit the Brandywell two weeks from tonight.

Drogheda are fading fast in the Premier Division of the eircom League. Qualification for Europe next season seems unlikely and the chance of defending the Setanta Sports Cup is almost as remote. A 3-0 defeat at the hands of St. Pats on Friday brought their run to four games without a win, leaving them still level on points with fifth placed Sligo Rovers.

Drogheda again plan without Simon Webb, Tony Grant and James Keddy. Glen Fitzpatrick is out after picking up an injury on Friday and Jason Gavin is suspended after being sent off in that game. Brian Shelley could return after injury though.

Derry also have a number of injury worries going into the game with Mark Farren, Killian Brennan and Kevin Deery all rated as doubtful. Derry should have enough cover though to minimize the impact even if all three miss out.

Re: Irish Eircom Leagues: 9th/10th Oct

Derry City - Drogheda 1 @1.8 7/10 bet365
Derry City is in a position where they must win if them the remains on Shelbourne still want to catch up! The today's opponent Drogheda has struck and plays in the master fight also no more role. With Drogheda Keddy, Webb, Grand, Fitzpatrick are absent because of injury and Gavin because of suspension.

The home balance of Derry also speaks volumes with 8-2-0 and they had finished, however, the last 2 home matches with a draw.
The H2H statistics also speaks clearly for Derry! The last home matches ended in each case with victories to zero for Derry. Drogheda has given up itself in the master fight. They lost the last play against Saint Patricks also with 0-3. Today against the strong home team Derry city it will hard give to get what.

Finaly my double bet:

Derry City + Russia @2.16 bet365

A LOT OF LUCK

Re: Irish Eircom Leagues: 9th/10th Oct

Maybe a short price treble is a quick way to be the poor house but as long as we don't go crazy with the stakes then why not.

Cork v Bray

Cork- beat Bray 6-0 the other week. Even Waterford are showing better form than Bray right now and as a result they are rock bottom after being 2nd from bottom for most of the season. Their form figures are 0-2-13 since their last win on 23/6/06 and even then it was against Waterford who were definitly the worst team in The Eircom Premier at that time.

Only word of caution is that Bray snatched a point against Drogheda the other week.

Limerick v Kilkenny

If Bray are bad then Kilkenny are even worse. Not won in something like 17 games and only picked up 2 points during that run albeit against Limerick and Shamrock R. But I suppose that we should be slightly wary as they sacked their manager this week but Limerick aren't a bad side and they have home advantage.

Shamrock R v Kildare

Rovers will be fired up and they are the most likely team to end up Champions in a very close 3 horse race. I read that Kildare have a handful of players absent due to injury, suspension and work commitments.

Cork/Limerick/Shamrock R 3pt treble @ 2/1 ish

yeah 2 goals each from Phillip Hughes and Keith Dunne. pity I didnt know of any bookies doing goalscorer bets on this one.

But a bet tonight is Cork City's Roy O Donovan to score anytime at 9/4 Stan James. He will be very likely starting in place of the injured John O Flynn. He scored a hat trick in Cork’s 6-0 win over Bray two weeks ago and has a great chance again tonight against a Bray side that conceded 10 goals now in their last 2 games.
