Re: Flemish, Dutch & Swiss - 21st Sep

Lokeren-Beveren
Are these Flems or Walloons?

Standard-Beveren 1-3
Beveren-Brugge 0-1

Standard are league leaders and

"une véritable leçon de football de la part des Ivoiriens de Beveren"

says the Club Brugge web site about their opponents.

Lokeren appear to have a long injury list with 4 regulars out tonight - Bance, Chaves, Baldvinsson and Doll- (though the names mean little to me).

Regardless, Beveren look to be in a rich vein of form and can't be without chances, especially at this price?

Beveren 3,85
Beveren +¼ 2,00
Beveren +½ 1,75

Missimg are:
Joao Carlos Pinto Chaves is suspended while Olivier Doll, Goran Drulic (ex Zaragossa), Aristide Bance (leading scorer), Killian Overmeire and keeper Zvonko Milojevic have all featured heavily in league matches this season.

Re: Flemish, Dutch & Swiss - 21st Sep

Excellent stuff Peter and good luck mate. All i can add is this.

Quote:
Walloons
(wŏloonz´) , group of people living in S Belgium who traditionally spoke a dialect of French called Walloon, but who today for the most part speak standard French. The Walloons, numbering some 3.5 million, reside mostly in the provinces of Hainaut, Liège, Namur, Luxembourg, and Walloon Brabant, in contrast to the Dutch-speaking Flemings of the northern provinces. The movement for reviving Walloon literature centered in Liège in the 19th cent.; today the language is considered moribund. The periodical Wallonie had considerable influence. Since medieval times the economic and social background of the Walloons has differed radically from that of the Flemings, and the cleavage became even more pronounced with the Industrial Revolution. The Walloon part of Belgium contains major mining areas and heavy industries, while the Flemings engage mainly in agriculture, manufacturing (particularly textiles), and shipping. Tension between Walloons and Flemings has long been a critical political issue. In 1970 a plan was approved that recognized the cultural autonomy of Belgium's three national communities: the Dutch-speaking Flemings of the north, the French-speaking Walloons of the south, and bilingual Brussels. The name Walloons was also applied to Huguenot refugees in America by the Dutch, who made no distinction between French and Walloon Protestants.

They're both Flems, Komp.
No danger of overheated passions there.

Re: Flemish, Dutch & Swiss - 21st Sep

Nicked off a Danish site:

Zurich have mostly long term injuries while Arau have more pressing absences:

Menezes - important midfielder
Simo - another important cog in midfield
Schenker a 3rd midfielder

Zurich have played well in the domestic league but were well beaten by Danish Brøndby last week.

15-09-05 UEFA Cup Brondby Zurich 2 - 0
10-09-05 Super League Yverdon Zurich 0 - 2
28-08-05 Super League Zurich Schaffhausen 5 - 0
25-08-05 UEFA Cup Zurich Legia 4 - 1
21-08-05 Super League Young Boys Zurich 3 - 1
14-08-05 Super League Zurich Xamax 3 - 2
11-08-05 UEFA Cup Legia Zurich 0 - 1
06-08-05 Super League Zurich Thun 2 - 2
30-07-05 Super League Basel Zurich 2 - 1
24-07-05 Super League Zurich Grasshoppers 4 - 2
16-07-05 Super League St. Gallen Zurich 1 - 3

With the small squad that Aarau has they'll find it difficult against a strong Zurich,
......he writes.

Decent odds.
