1.66 for Fiorentina?

Not a fan of odds on shots but I can see no other outcome here. Rangers have punched above their weight this season and have outdone what anyone expected them too.

Walter Smith’s side are in an absolute mess with injuries right now with the squad being down to the bare bones.

Another injury today in the form of Weir (who has been one their outstanding players this season). Add to that McGregor, McCulloch, Burke etc etc and this is a game too far for me.

I can see a similar game to the Bremen game away where Rangers went more defensive than normal and were under the cosh for the best part of the game but luckily got through in the end.

Fiorentina as good as got that final CL spot also so they can now focus more on this game too.”

Here’s the latest team news from the BBC:

Rangers manager Walter Smith says David Weir has made a ‘great recovery’ and could play in their Uefa Cup semi-final second leg against Fiorentina.

The Glasgow club had confirmed the defender’s absence on Tuesday with a groin injury, but he flew to Florence with the squad on Wednesday morning.

Steven Davis also had a groin complaint after Sunday’s match, but the midfielder is in the frame to play.

However, Allan McGregor, Lee McCulloch and Charlie Adam are definitely out.

Steven Naismith, Chris Burke and DaMarcus Beasley are also on the long Ibrox injury list.

But Barry Ferguson and Kevin Thomson return from European suspensions.

Weir limped off injured during Sunday’s Old Firm defeat and, although scans showed no muscle tear, the club ruled him out of Thursday’s crucial match.

However, Smith had more positive news as the club departed from Glasgow Airport.

“It is now possible that Davie will play,” the Rangers manager told the club’s website.

“When he came off on Sunday we thought he would miss the Fiorentina match.

“But he has made a great recovery and there is now a chance he will make it.

“It’s obviously a boost for us because he and Carlos Cuellar - along with Allan McGregor behind them - have been key players for us this season.”
